Located less than a 10-minute drive from KOA Murphy/Peace Valley campground, the Cherokee County Historical Museum is a must see for anyone visiting the local area! The museum highlights Native American and Pioneer Settler history in the Western North Carolina region.


ABOUT THE MUSEUM

The Cherokee County Historical Museum, formerly the historic Carnagie Library building, hosts a myriad of authentic historical Cherokee artifacts, exhibits, dolls, household items, farming equipment and more. The museum also shares the impactful history of the Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of Native Americans from the Southeastern United States to Oklahoma in the 1830s.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From KOA Murphy/Peace Valley Campground:

Turn left from the campground, exit onto US-129 S / US 74 W / US Hwy 19 S.

Turn right onto Peachtree Street.

The Cherokee County Historical Museum will be ½ mile ahead on the right.

Monday through Friday: 9:00am-5:00pm

Saturdays*: 9:00am-3:00pm (*May through October only)

Sundays: Closed



ADMISSION FEE

Adults: $3.00

Children age 6-17: $1.00

Children age 5 & younger: Free
