The Nantahala National Forest is the largest of North Carolina’s national forests, totaling 531,148 acres of awe-inspiring landscape, with its highest peak being Lone Bald Mountain at 5,869 feet. Nantahala boasts more than 600 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails.

The Nantahala National Forest was established in 1920 by the U.S. Federal Government in order to protect watersheds, provide access for timber and regulate the flow of water throughout the region.
