Meet Your Hosts

Dan and Joyce Hou

We have met a lot of nice and friendly campers, and seen quite a few returning guests.

Dan and Joyce Hou are living their dream as owners of the Minneapolis Northwest KOA. They hold many fond memories after 31 years in the business.

"We have met a lot of nice and friendly campers," Dan Hou noted. "And we have seen quite a few returning guests." They've developed friendships over the years and enjoy the lifestyle and the outdoor atmosphere of the campground.

The Hou's emigrated from Taiwan in 1970, and Dan earned both a Master's Degree and Ph.D. at Illinois State University He worked for 10 years as a researcher in school finance at the Illinois Department of Education. Joyce worked for the Illinois Board of Higher Education as a computer-programming analyst.

"We were trying to fulfill the American Dream - to own our own business and be our own boss," Dan said of their decision to buy their Minneapolis Northwest KOA, in Maple Grove. They take pride in keeping the campsites and facilities in great condition. They take good care of their customers, and are friendly and helpful.

The Hou's started out as tent campers, but have since graduated to a motorhome, which they thoroughly enjoy in the winter months, when they head South, visiting their many KOA friends. Their hobbies include reading, fishing and grandparenting. Their grandchildren, sometimes spend the summer at the KOA, Dan said.
