Southbound from Anchorage: At the Seward cutoff, go right toward Homer/Soldotna/Kenai through Cooper Landing to the end of the road. KOA is at mile 169, the first driveway shared with the Tesoro station. Keep right. If you crest the hill, you've gone too far (but the view will be spectacular!).

We live here year-round. The Alaska countryside is so beautiful, especially with the wildflowers, the weather systems, different seasons of the year. We play in the back country in the winter and in the summer. During the winter, people ski, dog sled, and snow machine all over the back country. During the summer, it is harder to get around in and is mainly by hiking or ATV's. When the fireweed blooms, the hillsides have a beautiful pink/purple look.
If you are adventurous, it is worth the money to take a four-wheeler tour to the backcountry. The wildlife is good at hiding and you never know when they will present themselves, the flowers are vibrant and abundant, and the scenery is breathtaking. The mountains, volcanos and glaciers are all around you.
These trips are not for the faint of heart. It is rugged Alaskan riding.
