There’s something wonderful about getting your campsite just right. The chairs are out, the camper is settled, and you’re ready to enjoy your vacation. Why pack everything up again just to explore another destination?
At Hagerstown Antietam Battlefield KOA, you can settle in and make us your home base for day trips to Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg. Spend your days discovering historic places, then return to a familiar campsite and a relaxing evening along Conococheague Creek.
Spend a Day Exploring Harpers Ferry
With its historic buildings and setting where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers meet, Harpers Ferry offers a memorable mix of history and scenery.
Start at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park visitor center for maps and help planning your visit. The park’s shuttle connects the main visitor parking area with historic Lower Town, making it a useful starting point for your day. Check the current shuttle schedule before heading out.
In Lower Town, explore museums and exhibits, see John Brown’s Fort, and walk to The Point for views of the two rivers coming together. The town’s stories reach beyond the Civil War to include industry, transportation, and the people who built their lives here.
Give yourself time to look around and enjoy the setting. Wear comfortable shoes and choose walks that suit your group—some routes include hills, steps, and uneven surfaces.
After a day of exploring, head back to camp, put your feet up, and share your favorite discoveries.
Set Aside Another Day for Gettysburg
Gettysburg deserves a day of its own. Staying in one place lets you visit without having to squeeze two major historic destinations into a single outing.
Begin at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. It’s a helpful place to get oriented, pick up a battlefield map, and decide how you’d like to explore. The museum and introductory film can provide context before you head onto the battlefield.
For visitors who prefer to travel at their own pace, the park offers a 16-stop self-guided auto tour, with information available through the National Park Service app. You can also arrange a tour with a Licensed Battlefield Guide for a more personal explanation of the landscape and events.
Leave time to pause, read the markers, and reflect. A visit to Gettysburg is about understanding the people and events behind the monuments as much as seeing the battlefield itself.
Build Some Campground Time into Your Trip
A rewarding vacation doesn’t need a full schedule every day. Between outings, leave room for a slower morning, an afternoon at your campsite, or time together beside the creek.
For RV campers traveling with a separate vehicle, staying with us means you can leave your camping setup in place while you explore. If you prefer a stay without bringing an RV, ask us about our cabins and lodges.
And when your visit lines up with the Remember When Diner’s operating schedule, let us handle a meal so you can spend a little more time relaxing.
An Easy Way to Plan Your Stay
Give yourself several nights so there’s time to enjoy both destinations and the campground:
Arrival day: Settle in, unpack, and enjoy your first evening at camp.
Harpers Ferry day: Explore Lower Town, its exhibits, and the river views.
Campground day: Sleep in, relax, and keep your plans flexible.
Gettysburg day: Visit the museum and visitor center, then explore the battlefield.
Check each park’s official website before your trip for current hours, admission details, tour reservations, and alerts: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and Gettysburg National Military Park.
Make Yourself at Home
At our family-owned Hagerstown Antietam Battlefield KOA, we invite you to settle in for more than a quick overnight stop.
Make us your home base, take your time exploring, and return each evening to the comforts of camp. Harpers Ferry one day, Gettysburg another—and plenty of camping memories in between.
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
