You should see the Hills from here! Custer/Mt. Rushmore KOA is your central location for seeing all of the Black Hills. We are in the center of all five major Black Hills attractions: Mt Rushmore National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, Jewel Cave National Monument, Wind Cave National Park, and Custer State Park, all within 6 to 23 miles of the campground.You can arrange tours with a local tour company that picks you up at your site. After a day of sightseeing, unwind at our tranquil campground among the ponderosa pines, just 3 miles west of Custer. The kids will love our jumping pillow and playground. Seasonal activities (Memorial Day to Labor Day) include a heated pool (weather permitting). We offer 1 and 2-room camping cabins (No Air Conditioning), Fully equipped deluxe cabin, 30 & 50-amp pull-thru and back-in sites, deluxe patio sites and several types of tent sites, from primitive to upgraded. Free Wi-Fi, clean restrooms, an on-site store, laundry ($), dump station, firewood ($), picnic tables, and propane ($) are available. Rates are higher June 30-July 7 and August 6- 15(Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Custer Cruisin' dates). No television service is provided. Some sites can receive satellite reception.
Policy for additional camping units (tent, R.V., etc.) on a single site: Site rates are for one camping unit. A camping unit is a vehicle, motor home, camper, tent or any other device used for sleeping. NO tents are allowed in RV sites. A maximum of six individuals per site.
Cancellation Policy During Sturgis/Custer Cruisin' Rallies (August 6-15, 2021): Cancellations made after June 30, 2021 will result in forfeiture of the entire first night's deposit. Early departures after checking in will not receive a refund on unused nights.

Local Area

Mount Rushmore National Monument

Symbolizing the ideals of freedom and democracy, it is a tribute to four presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln and their invaluable contributions to the United States. Walk the Presidential Trail, visit the museum, come back in the evening for the inspirational Night Lighting Ceremony. The monument is located 22 miles north of Custer KOA.


Crazy Horse Memorial

The world's largest sculpture now in progress, the Memorial includes the 40,000-square-foot Orientation Center and theaters, the Indian Museum of North America, the Native American Cultural Center and the sculptor's studio. Take a bus ride to the base of the sculpture to gaze up at the completed face of Crazy Horse. Return in the evening for the fantastic Laser Light Show. Located 8 miles north of Custer KOA.


Custer State Park

Explore this 71,000 acre world-class wildlife preserve located just east of Custer. The park features the spectacular geological formations and narrow tunnels of Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway, beautiful Sylvan Lake, and the Wildlife Loop, where you can see one of the nation's largest bison herds in the wild. Recreation includes hiking, fishing and swimming, Visitor Centers and historic sites. East entrance to the park is 6 miles east of Custer KOA.


Jewel Cave National Monument

Jewel Cave is the second longest cave in the world, with over 137 miles of passages explored and surveyed to date. Airflow studies indicate that most of the cave has yet to be found! The cave is well known for its natural beauty and unusual features, including crystal calcite, which lines much of the cave walls. Reservations are suggested for the ever-popular Scenic Tour, and can be made up to 1 week ahead. There is also a shorter Discovery Tour which is handicapped-accessible. Jewel Cave is 10 miles west of Custer KOA.
