Located in historic downtown Craig, the Museum of Northwest Colorado is worth a visit. The museum features a large cowboy gear collection, including chaps, saddles, spurs, guns and other artifacts dating back to the 1800's.
Nestled in the Yampa Valley, the Wyman Living History Museum is a unique collection of American life, ingenuity and advancement over the past 100 years.
Located just 40 miles east of Craig, Steamboat Springs offers great hiking, skiing, mountain biking, and many other outdoor activities. After spending the day outside, spend the evening relaxing in some hot springs. Steamboat Springs is home to Old Town Hot Springs and Strawberry Park Falls.
The Marcia car was the personal property of David H. Moffat, the namesake of Colorado's northwest corner, who brought the railroad from Denver to Craig. Tours are available May-September, Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm. Please visit the Craig Chamber of Commerce for more info and tours.
Take along a pair of binoculars and your camera and scan the open areas for the wild mustangs. From Craig, follow US Highway 40 west for 30 miles to Maybell. Turn right onto State Highway 318 for 18 miles to County Road 67, then turn right into Sand Wash Basin and follow the Wild Horse Loop.
This beautiful 25-foot waterfall is located on public land. Take Us Highway 40 west from Craig just past Maybell, turn right onto CO Highway 318 and turn left at mile marker 20.
This monument spans two states, 210,000 acres and millions of years. Have access to the fossils at the Quarry Visitor Center where approximately 1500 Jurassic-age fossils are revealed in the sandstone "Wall of Bones" exhibit. Dinosaur National Monument also provides many outdoor recreational opportunities from hiking and camping to wildlife viewing and river rafting.
Loudy-Simpson Park, right on the Yampa River, offers hiking nature trails, fishing, picnic areas with playground and a radio controlled park.
Managed by the the US Fish & Wildlife Service, this refuge is a nesting/resting area for migratory waterfowl along the Green River. Two Bar Ranch is located in Browns Park National Refuge and the log buildings, corrals and sheds were built with hand-hewn logs by Thomas White in 1887.
Spectacular red canyon walls tower above the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument. Picnicking, camping, hiking, wildlife, whitewater rafting (with permit) are all available here. Take US Highway 40 west from Craig just past Maybell, turn right onto CO Highway 318 and follow it approximately 46 miles to county Road 34N to the Gates of Ladore.
The Yampa Valley Golf Course, the oldest and most affordable 18 hole course in Northwest Colorado's Yampa Valley, is located just south of the town of Craig. Information can be found by clicking the link provided.
Located just 10 miles northeast of Craig. Elkhead reservoir is a local lake that offers fishing, water skiing, hiking, wildlife observation, horseback riding and camping.
Located north of Craig in Routt National Forest, Black Mountain & Freeman Reservoir offer many recreational activities! Spend the day on the OHV trails, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, or wildlife and bird watching.
Looming 1000 feet above the Yampa Valley just north of Craig, CO is the ancient horseshoe shaped, juniper-rimmed Cedar Mountain. This area offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities year round. From hiking, wildlife viewing, mountain biking in the summer to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.
