When you arrive in the Sierras, you will have numerous things to do within a short drive. From seeing mountainous views to fishing or taking a dip in a hot spring, you and your family, friends or partner will have much to explore. Some of the best places to visit in the Eastern Sierras include:
You can easily access the eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park, which has fewer crowds. You can drive on the scenic byway U.S. Highway 395 year-round or take the Tioga Pass Road/SR 120 West during warmer months. You can go for a hike and enjoy stunning views. Kayaking, fishing and swimming are other popular activities.
If you want a bird's eye view, take an aerial sightseeing tour. You can see all the major landmarks of Yosemite from high in the sky, making it a unique way to capture the majestic wonder of the park.
Bodie is a ghost town that used to be the location of one of the biggest gold strikes in California's history. Today, empty buildings and barren roads mark an abandoned village with memories of the past. You can take a self-guided tour with a map from the Bodie museum and explore the Stamp Mill.
If you would like a better view, try taking a hike on Bodie Mountain. Look down at the abandoned town and catch the incredible scenery of the Eastern Sierras and Mono Basin.
The Eastern Sierras offer plenty of hot springs for you and your family or friends. Keough's Hot Springs is one such location — open since 1919 and the largest natural spring in the area. Take a soak in the pool or enjoy a cool spray from the waterfall in the larger pool. There is a rock garden and food and drink on-site as well.
You can also explore many other hot springs in the area. Other options include Travertine Hot Springs and Benton Hot Springs.
Take a scenic drive through the Eastern Sierras on the June Lake Loop. It is a 16-mile road off 395 that offers great sights and a small town to explore. Stop at June Lake for a break at the beach or take a cool dip in the water. Go during the fall to see all the leaves changing — and take a look at the beautiful alpine lakes and mountains.
Lake Tahoe is a must-see and offers several things to do. Skiing and watching a show are only two of the numerous activities available in the area. Visit Vikingsholm Castle, catch some views from the Heavenly Gondola or take a dinner cruise. If you want to get outdoors, you can fish, hike, ride horseback and paddleboard.
Coleville / Walker KOA Holiday and Meadowcliff Lodge is in the Eastern Sierras and a short distance from these destinations and more. The campground has a pool, dog park and RV Site hookups. Families will have plenty to do after a long day exploring the area while staying at KOA. Reserve your next trip today!
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
