KOA Kamp Green Recognition

KOA Kamp Green Recognition

Saugerties / Woodstock KOA is an award winning family campground and RV Park in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The campground is divided into thickly wooded sites for campers in motor homes, trailers, fifth wheels and tents. Our sites have been designed to accommodate the smallest tent to the largest big rig. We also have 13 Camping Cabins and two new Lodges for the Campers looking for more creature comforts.

This KOA Campground, tucked comfortably among 40 acres of maple and pine trees, puts you front and center in this thriving vacationland. Festivals and fairs abound in summer and during brilliant fall foliage days, celebrating everything from jazz and crafts to garlic and classic cars. Spend the day shopping for antiques in Saugerties or crafts in Woodstock, or just take in a delicious meal at the many eating establishments in both villages. Kids of all ages stay busy on weekends with KOA’s craft programs, fire truck rides, mini golf, disk golf and the bounce house. Our catch and release pond holds catfish, bass and more. KOA’s heated pool and game room add to the fun. For the nature lovers we have a nature trail on site or travel a short distance to the many Catskill Mountain hiking trails. These trails are some of the best in the United States. Because Saugerties / Woodstock KOA is a family campground we have strict rules about quiet time, drinking, and campfires. Please be aware of this when making reservations. Our KOA campground is conveniently located only 2.5 miles west of exit 20, New York State Thruway on Route 212.

Meet Your Hosts

After working for years in New York City's largest homeless shelter, Wayne Hampel decided to skip the city politics and get into business for himself.

As assistant manager of building and grounds for the 1,000-person shelter, Wayne saw his share of crazy days. Prior to that he and his wife, Gail, owned a retail business for 20 years. Wayne said the couple felt ready to abandon big business and get back into business for themselves. As campers of 30 years, the campground business was a great fit.

"We have camped in tents, motor homes and in every level of camping," Wayne said. "We thought we could bring a lot of good experience to the business."

The Hampels bought the KOA campground in 2005 and like the side benefits of a seasonal business. "We don't mind working real hard for the summer and having a couple of months off to enjoy ourselves," he said. "This gives us time to afford travel."

The Saugerties campground is a family effort. Both of the Hampel's college-age sons are involved, as well as extended family on both sides. "It is one big family affair," Wayne said.

Despite waking up each morning to a thickly wooded campground, the Hampels say they are still taken in by its beauty. "It is a very natural campground," Wayne said. "Gail and I walk the trails regularly and see all the wildlife living on the grounds."
