We followed the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway, passing the Hagerman Fossil Beds crossing the mighty Snake River, and even tracing parts of the historic Oregon Trail along the way.
The fall colors were just starting to pop, the air was crisp, and the sky had that perfect Idaho blue. When we reached the state park, we climbed to the top for sweeping views, rented a sandboard to “surf” down the dunes, and ended the afternoon with a picnic beneath the shade trees by the water.
It was one of those days that remind you how much beauty is right here at home.
After a long day of climbing and sandboarding, we were ready to unwind. Our next stop was Miracle Hot Springs, a local favorite, and it’s easy to see why!
This peaceful spot offers four natural pools with water temperatures ranging from the high 90s to 105 degrees. Those temperatures are perfect for soothing sore muscles after a day of adventure. The atmosphere was relaxed and the drive back to the the Twin Falls/Jerome KOA was quick and easy.
It was the perfect way to wrap up a full day of Idaho exploration with a mix of adventure and relaxation. That perfectly captures exactly what makes Twin Falls/Jerome KOA such a special destination!
After breakfast, we packed a lunch and followed some recommendations from the front desk staff at the KOA.
One of their tips led us on a scenic drive to Niagara Springs State Park. There was a quiet path leading to beautiful views of crystal-clear spring water and early fall colors glowing along the canyon walls.
From there, we continued to Shoshone Falls, also known as “The Niagara of the West.” Even though it wasn’t peak flow season, the falls were still breathtaking and we practically had the place to ourselves. Several short walking trails wind through the park, surrounded by grass, trees, and sweeping canyon views.
On the way back to the KOA and picked up steaks and other fresh ingredients for a delicious campfire dinner under the stars.
Our final day started early with another incredible Idaho sunrise lighting up the horizon in gold and rose tones. After coffee and packing up lunch, we hit the road, headed about an hour and a half east, to explore Massacre Rocks State Park, a place with an ominous name but extraordinary beauty.
The trail began flat along the Snake River, then turned rockier with mild switchbacks and short scrambles over boulders. We paused for photos at a stunning overlook and were lucky enough to spot a few white pelicans resting on the rocks below.
It was an enjoyable five-mile hike, gull of views, sunshine, and that peaceful Idaho quiet that makes you slow down and just breathe it all in.
After three unforgettable days of scenic drives, waterfalls, hot springs, and starry campfire nights, one thing is certain: the Twin Falls/Jerome KOA isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a gateway to adventure!
