The road system needs some work but they have had so much rain that it has hindered the repairs. The owner has great customer service…we really enjoyed our stay.

Very clean restrooms and showers. Camp host was a super guy, as friendly and helpful as he could be. Weak internet and wet firewood kept it from getting 5 stars. Would absolutely stay there agains.

What a wonderful place to stay right off of 82! We were only there for an overnight, but Randy was friendly and even came by to check in after we got set up. Super nice folks and a Great Lake view during our stay due to recent rains. I highly recommend.

The host was nice and accommodating though the overall facility was downtrodden and in need of serious repair - Easily the worst cared for KOA that we’ve stayed in (by a long shot unfortunately).

We showed up after hours, and Randy got us a spot. I would definitely stay here again.

Wooded, and peaceful campground away from highway and city noise, but still close to the city of Starkville. The owner was very accommodating of our date changes and welcoming. Best campground on our trip south from Minnesota.

Our stay was wonderful! The only reason we didn't give a 10 and a 5 is because in the cabin the "couch" is SO miserable to sit on that it is unusable. Despite the cabin showing signs of wear, we had a great visit. Fortunately for us there had been some rain prior to our coming so the lake wasn't completely dry. Screen porch will hopefully be patched be repaired before mosquito season!

This was our 3rd time to stay here - my husband and I had an RV pull-thru site and rented a cabin for his parents. Making reservations is a breeze. Randy called to verify our arrival time and left information in box outside office for late arrival. Parents loved the cabin - outfitted with enough essentials in the kitchen to cook meals. Had a great time and will stay again.

Great management! Thanks for your attention to detail, like turning on the heaters in the cabins before we arrived on a chilly evening. I loved the sunrise and sunset glow over the water, and the sounds of the frogs and the birds. It's a great spot to enjoy nature away from the crowd while visiting the Starkville area. It's an easy 15 minute drive from campus.

We enjoyed the quiet. I hope to live to see the lake refilled. Otherwise we did enjoy the park

It’s not the fault of the campground that the levee broke. That being said, there were no other amenities. There was a small ru down playground that sis not look like it was in usable condition. This koa was more like a Journey than Holiday. We were supposed to stay for 3 nights and left after one.

Basic. Fine for 1 night. Easy access from/to US82 on County Lake Rd (IF you don't miss the turn) - but far enough away so NO traffic noise. Quiet with wide lots - but maybe appeared so because it was only 1/2 full in the off-season. POOR wifi - despite the manager's assurance that he/his wife got online without any problem. Roku TV rated the signal "poor" - so couldn't stream anything.

I stayed at the KOA campground in Starkville during the Dachsund Derby weekend, which also coincided with a major sporting event at the local college. The campground itself was very nice and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers were exceptionally clean, the pathways were well lit, and I felt safe walking around the property at night. Those were definitely positives. However, there were several issues that I feel are important for future campers to know about. First, the website stated that the tent camping sites had water and power hookups. I understood that to mean that each individual tent site would have its own hookup. When I arrived at my site, I discovered that sites 1–4 shared a single power and water hookup located between sites 1 and 2. The electrical hookup had only four outlets, meaning multiple campers potentially had to share it. Depending on which site you were staying in, you also needed a very long extension cord. I was not prepared for that because the website did not make the shared arrangement clear. Had I known in advance, I likely would have chosen a different campground. The fire pit at my site was another concern. It was essentially a ring of rocks that was heavily overgrown with fire ant beds, making me uncomfortable using it. I would not want to disturb a large fire ant colony by placing firewood in it and then risk having the ants scatter. What stood out even more was that the RV sites I walked past appeared to have much nicer metal fire rings, many with grills for cooking. I would have appreciated similar, properly maintained fire pits at the tent sites. I also found the website lacking some important check-in information. I had several questions about late arrivals and had to contact the campground for answers. Once I arrived, I discovered that much of that information was actually posted on the door of the office. Having those instructions clearly available on the website would have prevented some unnecessary back-and-forth. I understand that there was only one person working at the campground that weekend, and I recognize that he was doing his best. However, with both the Derby and a major college sporting event bringing a large number of people into Starkville, the campground was extremely busy. One person was expected to handle check-ins, phone calls, office duties, firewood sales, site preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and other responsibilities. That seemed like far too much for one person during such a busy weekend. Having an additional staff member available during major local events would have made a significant difference—one person could remain available in the office while the other handled the property and maintenance needs. Overall, I liked the campground itself and appreciated how clean and well maintained the common facilities were. My biggest issue was not the campground's appearance or cleanliness, but the lack of clear information about the tent-site hookups and the condition and inconsistency of the tent-site fire pits. Better communication on the website and additional staffing during exceptionally busy weekends would go a long way toward improving the experience and setting appropriate expectations for campers.
