Campground Reviews

We were very appreciative of the manager's recommendation for a tire repair shop in town that came out to the KOA campground and replaced our tires on site. It was an easy and quick fix for something that could have required a tow truck and a lot more time to repair. Thank you to Randy who accommodated our stay in every way!

Showers are dirty and filled with bugs and cobwebs. The urinal was out of order. Exterior lights were out or very dim at the shower house around some showers.

Very clean, nice campground. Disappointed that all the online advertising and literature show a lake that is now non-existent. Very glad we didn't bring the grandchildren. Great campground for a quick stop over though.

Very nice KOA that is about a mile from the highway and was a nice quiet place to stay. Too bad the lake was empty as they are working on the dam but it made for some awesome views in the morning. We didn't use the bathrooms so can't comment there. Would stay again if in the area.

We enjoyed our stay at Starkville KOA. The gravel sites were spacious and level. The beautiful views of the area made our stay relaxing. Randy works hard to keep the campground neat and clean. He was a terrific host!

Only one person on site working and he was not in a good mood. And cats ran loose.

The fact that the restrooms are kept immaculate is a key indicator that the management of the park really wants customers to have a positive stay. The manager assisted us with something we needed to help enjoy our stay and really appreciate it. I’m sure we will be back soon.

Campground was neat and clean for the most part. It was very quiet, which was nice. Our main issue was very weak WiFi and no cable, as advertised. The location, water and electricity were fine. Thank you!

We were very surprised to see the poor condition of this KOA. The staff was friendly and our campsite was ok. But the campground itself was in very poor condition. This KOA is ok for just an over night but otherwise I would not stay any longer.

They had no ice available in their almost non-existent camp store. The lake that is supposed to be there is dried up. This looks to have been a very nice camp ground at on time, but is slowly going downhill. Someone needs to take an interest in it.

The trees are so beautiful, saw lots of amazing birds at the park! Love the set up of the bathrooms, private and secure. Felt very safe as a female solo traveler.

Very nice property but absolutely nothing to do . The lake that they advertise has not had any water in it for who knows how long , there is no pool and it is over priced for where it is located miles from nowhere. The Owner is a little testy and not a very good people person but I guess I would be to if I owned that place where hardly anyone stays .

Great place to stay, but there’s no lake, and there needs to be more shade for the pull through sites.

No pool. Let limited amenities. Large sites. Local lake being drained significantly hurt this KOA

Campground is well maintained, close to Starkville and Mississippi State University. The sites are large & the campground has many shaded sites. The management is very accommodating and helpful.

This KOA has potential but with the water park portion not operational, not really much else to do here. And the office has limited hours is seems based on the few people staying here.

Park is not maintained very well particularly bathhouse and laundry. Park was pretty empty of campers and they assigned us a non shaded area in 100* weather. Seems like they could have been a little more thoughtful. Also, to "keep a schedule " they mowed our site and the surrounding sites throwing debris all over. Again, not very thoughtful.

I stayed at the KOA campground in Starkville during the Dachsund Derby weekend, which also coincided with a major sporting event at the local college. The campground itself was very nice and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers were exceptionally clean, the pathways were well lit, and I felt safe walking around the property at night. Those were definitely positives. However, there were several issues that I feel are important for future campers to know about. First, the website stated that the tent camping sites had water and power hookups. I understood that to mean that each individual tent site would have its own hookup. When I arrived at my site, I discovered that sites 1–4 shared a single power and water hookup located between sites 1 and 2. The electrical hookup had only four outlets, meaning multiple campers potentially had to share it. Depending on which site you were staying in, you also needed a very long extension cord. I was not prepared for that because the website did not make the shared arrangement clear. Had I known in advance, I likely would have chosen a different campground. The fire pit at my site was another concern. It was essentially a ring of rocks that was heavily overgrown with fire ant beds, making me uncomfortable using it. I would not want to disturb a large fire ant colony by placing firewood in it and then risk having the ants scatter. What stood out even more was that the RV sites I walked past appeared to have much nicer metal fire rings, many with grills for cooking. I would have appreciated similar, properly maintained fire pits at the tent sites. I also found the website lacking some important check-in information. I had several questions about late arrivals and had to contact the campground for answers. Once I arrived, I discovered that much of that information was actually posted on the door of the office. Having those instructions clearly available on the website would have prevented some unnecessary back-and-forth. I understand that there was only one person working at the campground that weekend, and I recognize that he was doing his best. However, with both the Derby and a major college sporting event bringing a large number of people into Starkville, the campground was extremely busy. One person was expected to handle check-ins, phone calls, office duties, firewood sales, site preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and other responsibilities. That seemed like far too much for one person during such a busy weekend. Having an additional staff member available during major local events would have made a significant difference—one person could remain available in the office while the other handled the property and maintenance needs. Overall, I liked the campground itself and appreciated how clean and well maintained the common facilities were. My biggest issue was not the campground's appearance or cleanliness, but the lack of clear information about the tent-site hookups and the condition and inconsistency of the tent-site fire pits. Better communication on the website and additional staffing during exceptionally busy weekends would go a long way toward improving the experience and setting appropriate expectations for campers.

The camp host Randy is always professional, helpful, and accommodating. We enjoy staying here when in the area. The grounds are always well kept, the showers are always clean. Great place to stay for overnights, sports at MSU, and just for relaxing.
