The National Championship Air Races is the last of it's kind carrying on the Cleveland Air Races of the 20's, 30's and 40's. Bill Stead organized the Reno Air Races in 1964 in the desert near Reno. The event that Mr. Stead started has been going on every year since then, except in 2001 when all aircraft was grounded due to "9/11". More than 150,000 spectators come to view the races of both military and civilian aircraft from years gone by.
Black Rock Desert Burning Man is a practice in community and an annual gathering of more than 60,000 "BURNERS", who meet in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada to create art, exchange ideas and participate in the burning of the Man
The Great Reno Balloon Race is the largest-free hot-air ballooning event in the world. It began in 1982 with only 20 balloons and has grown up to 100 balloons each year. It is a visually spectacular event to see all of these beautiful balloons floating above our city of Reno. For the early riser, join the Largest Pajama Party for the Glow Show and the wonderful Dawn Patrol. (They start at 5am).
