The Story of Journey: Our Lincoln City KOA Campground Cat

The Story of Journey: Our Lincoln City KOA Campground Cat

By Molly O'Leary

One day a cat was laying by the playground swings and our KOA guests and employees noticed he was there for a couple of days, no collar, no one to claim him. He had trouble walking and seemed exhausted and hungry.

The KOA owners, Steve and Heidi Long, being the animal lovers that they are, set up two bowls with food and water in the back storage room of the store. The tired tuxedo cat slept long hours hiding behind the stacked beer cases. Steve and Heidi asked the Camp Hosts, Danny and Molly, who live in the apartment above the store, if they would take care of him, which they agreed to do. It was decided to name the cat Journey after the campground.

He had a veterinary checkup and was found to be a neutered male between 12-15 years old. He had a thyroid condition so he was put on medicine twice a day. His hip was arthritic so he began taking Cosequin capsules once a day.

Today, Journey is thriving. He roams the campground greeting guests and, of course, looking for tasty handouts. The children love to pet him and carry him around. He’s very sweet, never showing anger or aggression towards anyone, even dogs!

Come visit us and maybe you’ll see Journey, but hopefully not in the dumpster, which he has been caught a few times foraging through. We love you Journey!
