Your Guide to an Autumn Weekend of Fun

Our corner of Tennessee is home to two of the largest festivals in the United States, drawing in huge crowds of people from all over the country. If you're looking to experience them for yourself and enjoy a memorable weekend, book your stay at Jonesborough / Cherokee NF KOA Journey!

What Is the Unicoi Apple Festival?

If you want to spend a day or two traversing animated streets in Erwin, Tennessee, the Unicoi Apple Festival is a must-visit event. What started as a small, single-day affair in 1978 has grown into a celebration bringing more than 100,000 people together to honor the foods, crafts, culture and heritage of the Southern Appalachian region. This festival runs on the first Friday and Saturday of October every year.

This festival is free to enjoy and is full of thrilling things to do, from listening to live music to exploring the arts and crafts created by an endless selection of vendors from all over the country. If you love running, you can sign up for the four-mile road race on Love Street, or you can become a taste tester for one of the cooking and baking contests. Either way, your itinerary is sure to be jam-packed with excitement!

What Is the National Storytelling Festival?

Gear up for a long weekend of swapping tall tales and hearing from some of the finest storytellers in the World. Whether you love a good scare or would rather be swept off your feet by the magic of poetry, the National Storytelling Festival has the perfect story for you. This three-day outdoor festival runs during the first weekend of October, building on the rich storytelling culture known throughout Appalachia and beyond.

You can participate in workshops, attend public reads or listen to conversations with your favorite storytellers. The festival sometimes holds "Story Slams!" where you'll have the chance to share your own story with the public. Purchase your tickets and join more than 11,000 people at the International Storytelling Center this fall in the heart of Jonesborough, Tennessee.
