What's For Dinner Around the Campfire

A great activity that can be enjoyed by the family around the campfire is preparing and cooking dinner together.  And what a better way to make it a little more fun than using pie irons and the hot coals in your fire ring.

We carry pie irons and a Pie Iron Creations cookbook in our camp store.

Maybe a Pie Iron Sloppy Joe sounds like a tasty meal for the family.

You'll need:

  • Potato Bread
  • 1 can of Sloppy Joe mix
  • 1 pound of cooked ground beef
  • Cheese

Assembling and Cooking Your Sloppy Joe:

  • Coat your pie iron with cooking spray and set a slice of bread inside.
  • Stir together the Sloppy Joe mix and the ground beef.  Spoon some of the mix onto the bread and add cheese.
  • Top with another piece of bread, close the iron and trim off the excess bread.
  • Hold over hot coals to get the filling good and hot.
  • The meat and cheese get sealed inside the bread to make it very easy to eat.
