Historic Downtown Hartwell

Historic downtown Hartwell is a Georgia Main Street City.There are historical antique shops, and specialty stores within the community. Plan to spend a weekend touring homes, shopping and dining at the restaurants. If you head over to Franklin County be sure to stop by the Center of the World located on Hwy 29 South. This is a sacred Cherokee Indian Assembly ground that the Cherokees considered to be the center of the world.

Hart County Botanical Gardens

The mission of the Hart County Botanical Gardens is to create a public garden that will be a place of beauty in Hart County that provides enrichment, education, and joy to all who visit. The majority of the planning and work completed at the garden is done by volunteers. The garden also provides educational opportunities for the community in conjunction with the Master Gardener program.

The Hartwell Dam

The Hartwell Dam & Lake Visitor Center is a great stop for anyone needing more information about one of the Southeast's largest lakes, Hartwell Lake. Big Oaks Recreation Area is located adjacent to the visitor center. At Big Oaks, you will have a great view of Hartwell Lake from the picnic area. Take a walk on a paved (handicap accessible) walking trail that goes along the edge of Hartwell Lake and leads to the top of Hartwell Dam, where you have a scenic view of the lake, dam and the Savannah River.
