If you enjoy seeing moose & elk, beautiful wildflowers and snow capped mountains, then this is the time to go for a drive up the Big Horn Mountains outside of Buffalo, WY. Just last week, I took a drive up the mountain and drove through Elgin Park. It was so exciting to see my 1st moose of the season bedded down in an aspen grove. Throughout the summer season I often see 1-3 moose in Elgin Park. I then drove back to Hwy 16 and continued West. In the spring, early summer a large herd of elk like to graze on the south hill before the Crazy Woman Canyon turn off. And as I expected, there they were. Be sure to bring binoculars, since their a bit of a ways off. I then continued West and turned off at Hazelton Rd. After driving 4-5 miles on this well maintained gravel road we came to a creek and the first cabins close to the road. And how exciting to see 1 bull moose and 2 calf moose cross the road. They stayed within 200 yards of the road and just grazed. What a delightful drive. Evenings seem to be the best time for wildlife viewing or early morning. Never get close to wild animals. You'd be amazed at how fast they are, especially if they have their young with them.
