Six Fun Things to do in Bakersfield CA

Bakersfield is a city in California that has a lot to offer. Whether you are looking for arts and culture, or just need something fun to do with your family, there is something for everyone here. Make sure to check out these three fun places while you visit Bakersfield CA:

  • The Kern County Museum: This museum offers free admission on Tuesdays so it's one of the best deals in town. They have exhibits about local history as well as art from different cultures around the world. One of their most popular collections is their antique doll collection which spans dolls from the 1800s all the way to toys of today! You can also find dinosaurs here too! (They're called "Theropods") They also have a lab full of fossils that were excavated right here in town which makes them really unique compared to other museums.

  • Dinosaur Trail: This trail takes you through some of Bakersfield's oldest neighborhoods where you can see dinosaur footprints left behind millions of years ago when this land was still underwater! It's only about a mile long but definitely worth it because not only will you get exercise from walking but learn something at the same time too!

  • The Tehachapi Loop Railroad: There aren't many train rides like this one left anymore so if you want to see what it was like back when trains were used as transportation then this ride will give you just that experience along with some great scenery too! The train goes around an entire mountain while being driven by its own steam engine.

  • Buck Owens' Crystal Palace: Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace is a country music museum, located in Bakersfield, CA. The museum is dedicated to Buck Owens and his music. You can visit the gift shop and restaurant at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace year round! The museum is open 7 days a week, from 10:00am to 6:00pm. In addition to the museum, you can enjoy many other attractions at Buck Owens Crystal Palace including the Crystal Palace Bistro Restaurant, The Buckaroo Attic Gift Shop, and the Buckersphere Arcade.

  • Bakersfield Museum of Art: The museum is a non-profit organization that was established in 1965. They have a permanent collection of over 1,100 pieces and they house rotating art exhibits. The museum also has a gift shop where you can find unique art pieces to buy for yourself or give as gifts to others. Additionally, the Bakersfield Museum of Art hosts many events throughout the year including the annual Bakersfield Art Association Show which features artists from all around California and beyond. The museum is open to the public Monday through Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-3pm (closed Sundays).

  • The World's Largest Kern County Basque Festival: The World's Largest Kern County Basque Festival is held every year in downtown Bakersfield. The festival celebrates the Basque culture and its heritage, as well as featuring music, dancing, and food. The festival typically takes place in June, but exact dates can vary from year to year depending on weather conditions.
