Meridian East / Toomsuba KOA Journey Reviews

This KOA, Cabel and his staff are incredible, full stop. To prefis my review my wife and I are avid boondockers, have camped across the entire country in every climate and every season. We have, however, never camped at a campground,or a KOA of any type before this weekend. This was a workup trip for a 4 week cross country trek including Route 66, mulitple national and state parks that will make using established camp grounds (KOA) A useful tool for us along the way for some nights. We needed a short trip and a KOA to test this before we set out later this year as well as testing some new equipment and this site checked those boxes. We came into it with no expectations and a little nervous as we don't camp near other folks or have onsite facilities available. Let me tell you, this place was absolutely incredible. The site was clean, maintained and pristine front to back. We arrived late and Cabel met us at check in and walked us through our spot before I could get out of the truck. He had a fire pit and wood waiting for us when we pulled in. The pool, laundry facility and camp shop is like having your house next door, just incredible. The crown jewel to me was easily the bathrooms, it was 5* cleanliness, quality and security. Having never had a bathroom while camping it was a little strange for us but by the end I was spoiled. We also travel with our 2 year old beagle and he was as welcome as we were, has his own park he could play in with toys and all. We (the humans) also had toys at our disposal, the pool (previously mentioned) is both clean and cool, we also got to play horse shoes and tetherball which was a total blast from the past. The buildings have a fantastic old school early road triping vibe complete with a sick V-peak roof which was such a rad welcome and feel when you arrive. I've thought long and hard for some constructive criticism, and the best I could come up with is there isn't much in Toomsuba for the wayward trail hound to do, but that didn't affect us and shouldn't affect you either if you are camping, as the point is to disconnect from the world anyway. We intended to make this a one off for some trip prep testing but will make the trip back solely based on the staff and facility. We cannot thank Cabel enough for his warm welcoming hospitality.

Very nice KOA. Perfect location for a one-night stopover as I was traveling from Texas back home to Georgia. Everything was well-maintained. The bathrooms and showers were the nicest/cleanest I have ever experienced at a KOA.
