Your Parkway Itinerary: Must-See Stops Near Our KOA

This section of the Parkway offers an incredible variety of sights. Here are the highlights, traveling south:

  • Rocky Knob Recreation Area (Milepost 167-169): Just a short drive from our campground, Rocky Knob is a hiker's paradise. The 1-mile Picnic Loop Trail is great for families, while the 10.8-mile Rock Castle Gorge Trail offers a challenge for serious hikers. The overlooks here provide breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
  • Chateau Morrisette Winery (Milepost 171.5): Perched high on a bluff, Chateau Morrisette is one of Virginia's most famous wineries. Stop in for a tasting of their award-winning wines, enjoy a delicious meal at their restaurant, and soak in the magnificent views from their patio. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon.
  • Mabry Mill (Milepost 176.2): This is arguably the most photographed spot on the entire Blue Ridge Parkway, and for good reason. This historic gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop offers a fascinating glimpse into early Appalachian life. During peak season, you can watch live cultural demonstrations, enjoy country-style food at the restaurant, and listen to old-time mountain music.

Putting It All Together for a Perfect Day

Start your morning with a scenic hike at Rocky Knob. Afterward, head south to Mabry Mill to explore the historic grounds and grab a delicious lunch.
