If you thought the Clearwater/Lake Tarpon KOA campground was just about sunshine, s'mores, and relaxation — think again! Tucked away like a hidden gem among our shady palms and cheerful campsites is a spot where nature gets a little extra magical: our Butterfly Garden.
That's right! We've planted a slice of paradise just for our fluttering friends, and it's become one of the most colorful and peaceful spots in the campground. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a budding photographer, or just someone who enjoys watching tiny miracles with wings — this garden is for you.
Our butterfly garden is full of native and nectar-rich plants like milkweed, lantana, vinca, and pentas — the butterfly version of an all-you-can-eat buffet! These blooms attract some of Florida's most beautiful butterflies, including the iconic Monarch, the Zebra Longwing (our state butterfly!), and the Gulf Fritillary with its fiery orange wings.
Guests often tell us they come to the garden "just for a minute" and end up staying for an hour, mesmerized by the delicate dances of our winged visitors.
From Caterpillar to Cloud Surfer
Our garden isn't just about beauty — it's also about life! Keep your eyes peeled for caterpillars munching away on leaves, forming chrysalises, and beginning their transformation. If you're lucky, you might even catch a butterfly emerging for the first time, drying its wings in the Florida sun.
