Auto Baron Homes

Four of the majestic homes created by automotive wealth are open to visitors. You can see first hand how the auto pioneers lived -- the graciousness, culture and hobbies they enjoyed. The mansions are: Edsel and Eleanor Ford House; Fair Lane. the Henry Ford Estate; The Fisher Mansion; and Oakland University's Meadow Brook Hall, residence of Matilda Dodge Wilson and her husband, Alfred Wilson.

Detroit Zoo

When you visit the Detroit Zoo, please take special note of the "mixed species" exhibits; one featuring South American animals, and one featuring African animals. These are spacious areas where several species interact much as they would in the wild. Don't miss the Penguinarium, the walk-through aviary, Holden Museum of Living Reptiles and Amphibians, the Polar bear exhibit, as well as lions, tigers, elephants and chimps. Be sure to view the three lakes with their excellent variety of waterfowl.

Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame

The Museum exhibits 75 racing vehicles of all types covering 90 years of racing. The Hall of Fame features nearly 70 Heroes of Horsepower in bronze, photographs and memorabilia. Other highlights include driver uniforms, artifacts, videos, driving simulation games, a four-lane slot car track and a gift and collectibles shop. “Motor City,” Detroit Historical Museum

This exhibit encompasses more than 8,000 square feet of space and traces Detroit's development as the automobile capital of the world and the industry's impact on Detroit's people and landscape. The exhibition completes a series of permanent displays examining Detroit's history from its origin as a French fur-trading post to its development as a world-class industrial center. "Motor City" highlights include "the body drop," an actual two-story segment of General Motors' Cadillac Clark Street Assembly Plant reinstalled to demonstrate production technology used from 1914 to 1990. The exhibit also examines the nature of the industry, the people who built cars and the future of the automotive industry.
