Come stay with us - Your "God's Country" Host

The Newberry KOA Resort campground is located in the heart of Michigan's beautiful Eastern Upper Peninsula, and features over 100 large, shaded sites with water and electricity at each one.

Our pool building is equipped with a spacious, heated in-door pool and a jacuzzi bath. Enjoy mini-golf, rent our pedal carts, play video games, camp-store, or have a hand-dipped ice cream.

The complete laundry facility, restrooms, and showers will make your stay even more pleasant. OPEN 24 HOURS.

Our fun-loving staff will be there to help you with all of your needs. There is always something to do at the Newberry KOA campground. Don't forget your fishing poles, because our area has some of the best fishing in the state.

Our KOA's central location allows you to take in many of the Upper Peninsula's natural attractions. We're only fifteen minutes from the famous boat trips to Tahquamenon Falls or you can drive to the Falls in 30 Minutes.

You may choose to visit one of the oldest cities in our country, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and visit the renowned Soo Locks, Casinos and lots of other attractions while there (which is also only about an hour away). Across the International Bridge into Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, you might be interested in the foreign city and it's unique Agawa Canyon Train Tour. Munising's inspiring Picture Rocks, Seney National Wildlife Refuge and a bear habitat, and Lake Superior's beautiful Sand Dunes, are also nearby to the Kampground.

No trip to our area would be complete without touring the mighty Two-Hearted River made famous by Ernest Hemingway. Finally, Mackinaw Island and the straits area, is only a short drive and offers fun and excitement for the whole family. Great customer service comes naturally to Scott and Cindy Green, hosts of the Newberry, Michigan KOA. They've enjoyed interacting with people even before they became campground hosts, when Cindy was a restaurant manager and Scott was a waiter.

Scott is in charge of the maintenance, escorting guest to their sites and helping everyone with any need and Cindy is in control of the front office, registering guest, keeping the facility clean and has many years of management experience, they can both take your stay to the next level. So if you are just coming to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, or you want to be  adventurous and explore "Gods Country", the staff at Newberry KOA can meet your needs and make your visit to the Upper Peninsula the most memorable of all get-a-ways. Wild Bluff Golf Course: Wild Bluff offers 18 holes of championship golf, a world class double teed driving range, two practice putting greens and one green for brushing up on your chipping and bunker play. Standing high on our "top" tee of Wild Bluff's driving range is unique as you target greens in the shape of a heart, club, diamond and spade. Five sets of tees allow you to play the course length that fits your ability. Wide fairways and large greens make your visit to "Wild Bluff" a unique, playable and relaxing day on the course.

ORVing

Get on your ATV, motorcycle, dirt bike or dune buggy and head into the woods. If you love to ride on your ORV then the Newberry area is the place for you. You will find a network of trails through the Lake Superior State Forest wilderness that will provide many hours of unsurpassed riding. Most of the forest north of 4 mile corner (4 miles from Newberry) is open to off roading. State Forest Roads are open to off road traffic unless posted closed. Almost all of the many seasonal roads throughout the county are also open to you. Six DNR maintained trails surround the Newberry area. Stop at the DNR Office in Newberry at the junction of M-28 & M-123 (behind the Comfort Inn) for trail permits, maps and local "Rules of the Road" before you head out into the forest.

Paradise/Whitefish Point Attractions: Tahquamenon Falls Located 52 Miles North of KOA Newberry

Located in the heart of Tahquamenon Falls State Park, the Tahquamenon Falls are one of the largest east of the Mississippi. The Upper Falls has a drop of nearly 50 feet, is over 200 feet across, and can propel a maximum flow of more than 50,000 gallons of water a second. The Lower Falls, located four miles downstream, is a smaller cascading waterfall. It can be viewed from the river or from an island that is accessible by rowboat.

Tahquamenon Falls Excursion - Toonerville Trolley Located 12 Miles East of KOA Newberry

All aboard for an exciting excursion into Upper Michigan wilderness. The Toonerville Trolley, a narrow gauge railroad takes you 5-1/2 miles through thick forest, the habitat of bear, deer and other wild animals and birds. Your first view of the beautiful Tahquamenon River is at Hunters Mill. At the end of the trolley ride, a riverboat is boarded for a 21 mile cruise down the River to the upper Tahquamenon Falls.

This area was named by the French voyageurs in the 1600's. Grand Marais means the Great Pond, used as a Harbor of Refuge. Point Iroquois Lighthouse Located 65 Miles North/East of KOA Newberry

The Point Iroquois Lighthouse stands watch where Lake Superior begins its treacherous rush into the St. Mary's River. The Ojibwa Indians massacred a group of invading Iroquois warriors at this location in 1662, giving the point its original Indian name. It was noted by the early explorers, but did not become significant until the St. Mary's Falls Ship Canal opened in 1855.

The Refuge encompasses 95,238 acres; the Seney Wilderness Area, which contains the Strangmoor Bog National Natural Landmark, comprising 25,150 acres, or 26 percent of the Refuge. A free shuttle will transport participants from the Lower Falls to the trailhead at the Upper Falls. The local North Country Trail chapter will be on-hand to answer questions and provide nature activities. The River Trail is rated difficult and includes stairways, exposed roots and steep inclines. Wildlife Wednesdays at Seney National Wildlife Refuge 7-9:30 p.m. June, July, and August Join us for a casual, guided auto tour. Tours take you onto part of the Marshland Wildlife Drive, Fishing Loop, and into the backcountry. This is a great chance to view wildlife, enjoy the scenery, and ask questions. We will be on the lookout for a variety of wildlife, while sharing refuge history and management practices. Some seating is available in refuge vehicles. 4th of July Parade in Curtis, Michigan Curtis always puts on one of the biggest and best firework displays starting at dusk. On July 1, 2012 (Sunday) there will be a parade at 12:30 and fireworks at dusk. Lions club chicken BBQ and Chamber food and beer tent, along with Art & Craft vendors all day at the Curtis Park.

Newberry's 4th of July Parade and Community Appreciation Days on JULY 4th Parade downtown starts at 10:30 am from the American Legion and heads north on M-123. Community Appreciation Days, at the Tahquamenon Area Schools immediately following the parade until 1pm includes children's games, rides, food, arts and crafts and vendors. Annual Chicago to Mackinac Yacht Race July 21st - 23rd 2012 Starting in 1898 with a mere five boats, The Mac has evolved into a world class sporting event. Although the Mac remains primarily an amateur event, this race has a proven track record of attracting some of the finest sailing talent in the sport. The race is 333 statute miles (289.4 nautical miles) from Chicago, starting just off Navy Pier, to Mackinac Island, Michigan. It is the longest annual freshwater sailing distance race in the world. The boats cross the finish line between the lighthouse on Round Island and the race committee trailer on Mackinac Island.

July 23rd & 24th 2011 Breakfast goes from 7am - noon each day and costs $7.50 each. Come out for a great breakfast of bacon, eggs, homemade sausage, pancakes and fried potatoes cooked over an authentic wood stove and served in the Cook Shack as it was done 100 years ago. Danny Johnston and Cedar Swamp Boys and Jeff Guenther will perform along with other volunteer musicians from 11:30-6:00 on Saturday in the Music Pavilion. Sunday gospel music starts at Noon in the Music Pavilion followed by more folk music in the afternoon until 6:00pm. Bring any non-acoustic instrument and play along.

Would you like to participate in collecting and tagging monarch butterflies? Join us for this morning of Monarch education and citizen science. We will start with an orientation session and then will be in the field for about 3 hours. To complete the day we will have a going away party for the butterflies as we wish them a safe journey to their winter grounds in Mexico.

The Erickson Center for the Arts presents their 5th Annual Above the Bridge Songwriters Weekend June 14 -June 17, 2012 at Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn and the Erickson Center in Curtis, Michigan.

The Above the Bridge Songwriters Weekend is an all inclusive weekend workshop with award winning musicians/songwriters. The skilled and experienced staff includes returning staff members Annie & Rod Capps and John Latini, Dave Boutette and Jill Jack. The public is welcome to come and listen to participants of the Above the Bridge on Thursday and Friday evenings, June 14 & 15, at Chamberlins Ole Forest Inn. On Saturday night, June 16, the public is invited to the Erickson Center in Curtis,where the Above the Bridge staff will perform in concert.
