Visiting Glacier National Park

Experience one of the best national parks with unbelievable geological features — Glacier National Park. This popular national park is located in the Rocky Mountains on the Montana and Canada border. You can explore over 1 million acres of Glacier National Park through hiking trails, bike paths, picnic areas and waterways.

Glacier National Park is known as the Crown of the Continent because of the array of beautiful landscapes, like alpine meadows, lakes, mountains and exquisite forests. This park is a must-visit for adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts with extensive hiking trails, numerous types of wildlife and historical features.

Planning your trip to Glacier National Park will include learning about entry fees, the weather you can expect, all of the activities available, how to get to the national park, places to visit and where to stay. You can choose to stay in a tent, cabin or RV when you visit one of the many Kampgrounds of America locations in the surrounding area.

KOA Campgrounds are the perfect accommodation for your trip to Glacier National Park because of the amenities and proximity to the park. Whether you want to stay north of the park closer to Canada, south of the park near Flathead Lake or close to the park entrance, you can find the right KOA to make your Glacier National Park camping adventure one to remember.

Experiencing Glacier National Park

The first step in planning your visit to Glacier National Park is deciding when you want to go. If you like warmer temperatures and want to be able to get to most places in the park, the best time to visit is in July and August. This time of year is considered peak season, and temperatures are usually in the low 80s during the day and drop into the 40s at nighttime. It's still important to bring layers and jackets, though, because the weather can change quickly. You may even see some snow if you're visiting higher elevations in June and July.

Arranging travel plans to Glacier National Park is your next task. You can arrive at this park by air, train or vehicle. Air travel will require you to arrive at Glacier Park International Airport, Missoula International Airport or Great Falls International Airport. The airport you fly into may depend on the KOA Campground you plan to stay at.

The Amtrak Empire Builder will stop at West Glacier (Belton) and the Izaak Walton Inn at Essex year-round, and stop at East Glacier Park seasonally.

Making the trip by car or RV is ideal for people who enjoy road trips and stopping at numerous destinations along the way. Traveling in an RV is a great option to keep all of your belongings in one place and easily stay at a KOA Campground.

If you are visiting during the peak season, make sure you are aware of the high crowd levels at popular trails, scenic areas and parking lots during your stay. It is helpful to plan your days early or take advantage of park transportation options to make it to all of the sights and areas you want to explore.

Glacier National Park is a popular destination because of all of the places you can visit within the park and in the surrounding area. A must-visit area is Logan Pass — the highest point in the park that you can access by vehicle. At 6,646 feet in elevation, Logan Pass is an excellent spot to take in the beautiful scenery this national park offers. Make sure you make it to the location early, as this is a popular place for visitors to stop by and view the glacial peaks, wildlife and alpine plants.

Other ways you can experience this park are by exploring hiking trails, riding on bike trails, rafting down rivers, signing up for a red bus tour or taking a boat excursion on one of the lakes. There is an activity for nearly every person at Glacier National Park and numerous ways to experience the beauty of this location.
