Meet Your Hosts
"Howdy! Welcome to our friendly, clean campground. We would be pleased to host you, our guests, for the night or the week. Please stop in and see us."The Nelsons, Dave & Mary Jo and Jim & Rhonda grew up camping. They and their families best vacation memories involve camping and a KOA campground seemed a perfect fit for them.Dave and Jim are brothers. They and their wives love dealing with the camping/rv customer. The four of them really enjoy the many benefits of working and managing a campground.Mary Jo and Dave bought their first KOA in 2000 in northern Wisconsin. After selling it, they found out that retirement wasn't for them and started looking for another KOA. In 2008 they purchased the Cheyenne KOA.Since Dave and Mary Jo first started camping they always seemed to prefer heading to the west, the great open spaces and the Rocky Mountains appealed to them. The Cheyenne KOA was the perfect place. In 2003 Dave's brother, Jim, worked part of the year at the KOA in Wisconsin. He enjoyed the campgound and the campers so much that he told Dave “if you ever find another campground that I can be involved in, let me know.”In 2011 Dave and Mary Jo decided to try 'part time' retirement again. The natural people to take over the day to day operation of the KOA was Dave's brother Jim and his wife Rhonda.Jim and Rhonda had been in the hospitality and hotel/motel management business for the last several years in Texas. Dave and Mary Jo contacted them and gave them 'an offer they couldn't refuse'.Both Dave and Mary Jo enjoy watching the energy and excitement that Jim and Rhonda have brought to the Cheyenne KOA. Their goal, from the first day, has been to treat both employees and guests with the utmost respect.Although Jim doesn't get out fly fishing as much as he would enjoy, he is equally happy making our guests experience 'KOA Great'.Since we are primarily an overnight campground, most of our guests only stay a few days or less. We are proud to host campers from all 50 states and many, many international travelers every year.Dave and Mary Jo can still be found on the campground some evenings in the summer, but many times, they and their 5th wheel trailer are 'on the road'; and … Dave is still trying to negotiate a price with Jim for his 'used' fishing tackle.
