KOA Kamp Green Recognition

KOA Kamp Green Recognition

We may be 'little', but we have a LOT to Offer!

YES! We are a quiet, shady, pet-friendly, family-oriented campground just outside the city limits. We are just minutes away from all the 'hustle-bustle' a person could want! You can walk America's Historic Crossroads and enjoy a cozy campfire all in the same day! It's really comforting to know you have a choice when you're staying with us. We have long, level pull-through sites with room to spare for even those 'Big Rigs' with tow. We have temperature-controlled Camping Cabins and a full-service Camping Lodge that offer a chance to kick back and relax in a comfortable yet rustic atmosphere. Our on-site Krossroads' Cafe fills the air with home-cooked aromas of Bacon & Eggs in the morning and Steak, Burgers & Pizza in the evening. Terre Haute offers year-round entertainment possibilities from the Boot City Opry, the Terre Haute Symphony, to the Hulman Center Concerts and Sporting events and Community Arts. We also have an ample supply of local museums, cinemas, restaurants and historic treasures, as well as plenty of 'retail therapy' opportunities within minutes of the campground. Every season brings special events and festivals. Some of our favorites include The Banks of the Wabash Festival, the Blues at the Crossroads Festival, the Popcorn Festival and, of course, the nationally renowned Covered Bridge Festival! Racing enthusiasts enjoy Quarter-Midgets, Drag and Sprint Car Racing on our local tracks -- "Where the Legends Begin". The Indy 500, Allstate 400, and the Brickyard 400 are among the 'big ticket' races just an hour away at the Indianapolis Speedway. Our campground and local area offer a never-ending range of affordable family activities for our year-round traveler who wants just "a little more" while they're here. We hope you enjoy your visit with us while traveling through Indiana's Wabash Valley.

Meet Your Hosts

The Terre Haute KOA sits on the out-skirts of town and is just 'close enough for comfort' to enjoy both town and country! Because the campground has many shade trees, we offer our campers Cable TV (70+ channels) and WiFi for added comfort during their stay! We can handle some mighty "Big Rigs" and their tows, so size is generally not an issue here! Together with other seasonal activities and our year-round Krossroads Cafe, we hope to accommodate your every need during your stay with us!

We try to keep our pull-thru sites as level as possible - making it GREAT for accommodating the camping unit of your choice. We all work hard to keep our KOA clean & safe for the entire family - pets included! We have plenty of roadway for kids of all ages to ride their bikes around the grounds. We also have games in the Social Room and Sports Equipment at the front desk just waiting to be used! We love to see you jumping into the pool on a hot day, as well as relaxing around your campfire at days' end.

We encourage our campers to share their expertise with us. We love to get practical ideas from anyone who wants to share them -- So don't be shy! You never know...we might just be using your idea by the time you return to us! After all, that's how we started our Krossroads' Cafe -- And look at it now!

Awwww...the sites, sounds, and even smells of camping -- We love 'em! We hope to share some camping experiences with you during your visit -- See you soon!

Equestrians' Delight! Photo

Equestrians' Delight!

Horses are trained and ridden for practical working purposes such as in police work or for controlling herd animals on a ranch. They are also used in competitive sports including, but not limited to, dressage, endurance riding, eventing, reining, show jumping, tent pegging, vaulting, polo, horse racing, driving, and rodeo. Some popular forms of competition are grouped together at horse shows, where horses perform in a wide variety of disciplines. Horses (and other equids such as mules and donkeys) are used for non-competitive recreational riding such as fox hunting, trail riding or hacking. There is public access to horse trails in almost every part of the world; many parks, ranches, and public stables offer both guided and independent riding. Horses are also used for therapeutic purposes, both in specialized paraequestrian competition as well as non-competitive riding to improve human health and emotional development. Our local Green Gables Equestrian Center is located four (4) miles East of the Terre Haute Airport at County Roads 650 West and 500 North. Paul was born in Terre Haute on April 22, 1859, just before the beginning of the Civil War, to John and Sarah Dresser, in the home which the Vigo County Historical Society now owns and maintains in his honor on Dresser Drive in Fairbanks Park. Community Theatre of Terre Haute Photo

Community Theatre of Terre Haute

Music, Laughter, Drama, Romance... CT's 84th season has something for everyone! On behalf of the Board of Directors of Community Theatre of Terre Haute I would like to welcome you to our 84th season. We are very excited about the plays on the main stage and the Oakley theater: The Seven-Year Itch, Doubt: A Parable, Grey Gardens, The Graduate, God’s Favorite, and Yellowman. The first play, a comedy, is the original version of a famous film. The second deals with a controversial subject. We hope you stay to discuss it with us. Our musical presents the story of the eccentric relative of Jackie Kennedy. The fourth play, also a comedy, is an adaptation of film. The final play deals with Neil Simon’s view of a well-known Biblical story. The Oakley stage play examines the relationship between personal and public history in an intense two-person show. We hope that with each of these performances you experience for a few hours the magic that is live theater. Each volunteer is part of the process of creating this magic. The joy of working on a play is having an impact no matter how small or large in creating a world that lives for a time on the stage. Everything we do at Community Theatre depends of the work of volunteers. We are always looking for new people to join us. Don’t worry if you have no experience. We will be happy to find a place for you to start and will train you to do any job that interests you. Then you too can share in the joy of bringing life to words on a page in a script. The Community Theatre of Terre Haute operates through the sale of tickets, donations and grants. By purchasing a ticket you have helped us create a special world on the stage. Eugene V. Debs Museum Photo

Eugene V. Debs Museum

Eugene V. Debs died in 1926 and his body was brought back to Terre Haute where it lay in state in the Terre Haute Central Labor Temple. Great men and women from the world came over to Terre Haute for his funeral which was conducted by Norman Thomas from the front porch of the Debs home. Thirty-eight years later, Thomas returned to Terre Haute to dedicate the Debs home as a memorial to the great humanitarian. Debs was cremated and his ashes were interred in Highland Lawn cemetery, Terre Haute, with only a simple marker. Ten years later his beloved wife, Kate, was buried beside him. Over the years, hundreds have journeyed to his grave to pay tribute to this great man whose many reforms have now become a part of the American way of life. There is hardly any American alive today, rich or poor, whose life has not been touched in some beneficent way by the influence of Eugene Victor Debs. “Too long have the workers of the world waited for some Moses to lead them out of bondage. I would not lead you out if I could; for if you could be led out, you could be led back again. I would have you make up your minds there is nothing that you cannot do for yourselves.” (From an address on Industrial Unionism delivered at Grand Central Palace. New York City, Dec. 18,1905. ) Visit us the next time you are in the area. Hours at the Home are Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 to 4:30p.m. Wednesday after 1:00-ring doorbell. Other hours can be arranged by phone or email. Museum Address: 451 N 8th St Terre Haute, IN. 47807 Mailing Address: P.O. Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra Photo

Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra

FIRST-TIMER'S GUIDE

Enjoy the music
You have come to be entertained, moved, transported, or perhaps, to satisfy a loved one's plea. Anyway, you're there, so you might as well enjoy it. Some do this by watching the orchestra or the conductor. Some do this with their eyes shut. Experiment. Enjoy. A key to enjoyment is to...
Please make a lot of noise in the lobby
We love to hear the lobby "buzz" before and after the concert. So, please limit your conversations to before or after the music. Oh, and anything that makes unwanted noise should be left at home or turned off. This includes: cell phones, pagers, wrist watches, crinkly candy wrappers, baby monitors, children under the age of six, most pets and some distant relatives. Speaking of children...

Please bring your young children to our holiday concerts, our free Symphony in the Park, or rehearsals.
But please consider leaving young children in the care of a competent relative or babysitter for our other subscription concerts. Our concerts are generally two hours long, with a 20 minute intermission. For this reason, we provide a family-oriented holiday concert, a symphony in the park at Fairbanks Park and rehearsals. Children age six and older are welcome at our regular subscription programming. Speaking of excellent programming...

Applaud whenever you feel moved to applaud
Most people applaud a performer to express their awe and their appreciation for the performance. So, whenever so moved, please applaud. However, it may benefit your relationship to the loved one next to you to know that most symphony-goers feel bound to an unwritten contract to applaud only at the end of the entire musical work. For example, in a four movement work, people actually wait until the end of the fourth movement to applaud. But, they generally make up for lost applause by applauding a really long time. How long? Long enough for the conductor to bow, shake hands with some musicians, walk off the stage, pause, come back on the stage, invite the orchestra to stand, bow, shake hands with some musicians, and walk off again. So, when not wanting to totally embarrass your evening's companion, wait until others applaud, then follow their lead. Speaking of taking the lead...

Come in and sit down regardless of what time you arrive
Tilson Auditorium has seats in a variety of places, and all of them are very comfortable. However, if you want to be among the leaders of the audience and sit in Tilson Auditorium, you will need to arrive before the music begins. Once the music starts, the ushers will not allow you to enter until an appropriate break in the music, which in some cases may not be until intermission. Orchestras all over the world do this to ensure the enjoyment of the vast, vast, VAST majority of concert-goers who arrive and take their seat on time. We know you'll understand. Speaking of understanding...
