We're within walking distance of many restaurants, from world-class eateries, steak houses, family food, pizza places and even sports bars.
Relax at this peaceful, quiet family campground, set in a tall-pine forest located just 7 miles from the University of Notre Dame and nestled between the pulsing cities of South Bend and Elkhart. Enjoy your leisure time by camping with family and friends, hang out in our beautiful heated pool or go visit the many local attractions nearby. The South Bend / Elkhart KOA is close to the College Football Hall of Fame, Studebaker National Museum, Hudson Automobile Museum, Shipshewana and Amish country, the South Bend Chocolate factory, the University of Notre Dame or the RV capital of the world, many RV manufacturers, RV surplus stores and the RV/Motorhome Hall of Fame.
Huge "Splash" parks, casinos and an extraordinary zoo can be found here in our surrounding areas. The South Bend / Elkhart North KOA is only a couple of hours away from Chicago, if the “big city bug” bites you. There is also a train between South Bend Airport and downtown Chicago. You'll enjoy the beauty of Northern Indiana, with many fishing places nearby. Stop to see the St. Joseph River and take a stroll along the riverwalk in Mishawaka or the one in Elkhart. Visit the breathtaking beaches on Lake Michigan like the famous Silver Beach and see Mount Baldy, the biggest wandering sand dune at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park.
Our campground has plenty of full hookup-pull through RV sites available, all leveled and with cable TV access. Our RV sites are spacious and long enough to fit your RV - whether you have a "Big Rig" or a small travel trailer - and most sites are shaded. All sites come with picnic tables and fire rings, and we offer free WiFi service thru out the entire park. Our KOA features an all natural, fully fenced-in and spacious dog "Fun Run", so bring the pets!
If you don’t travel by RV, we offer spacious deluxe cabins and cozy, comfortable and rustic 1 or 2 room cabins. Tenters will find rustic sites or more luxury spots in our partially roofed Tent Village with water, electric and even cable TV access. Our KOA is a convenient base for sports events, museum-hopping, golfing, canoeing and kayaking. For sporting activities, we offer Basketball, Volleyball, Miniature Golf, Tetherball, Frisbee Golf, Ping-Pong and a nature trail for hiking. Don’t miss the petting zoo either! Meet Your Hosts
Teamwork is what prompted Thomas Jetzer and Patricia Schenk to move from their homes in Switzerland to the United States. "We wanted to run our own company and to work in traveling or camping," said Patricia. Thomas was working as a car mechanic foreman for GM, and Patricia was the general manager at an RV rental company after the two immigrated to the United States in 2002. In 2005, they purchased the South Bend KOA and have since invested much of their lives into their business. "We are one big family," said Patricia.
According to Thomas and Patricia, the South Bend KOA proves customer service friendly, and everyone attempts to ensure a pleasant stay. "Every customer is unique and should be treated like that," added Patricia. Not only are the customers unique, the campground itself is commendable-renovations, scenery, and accommodations are what a camper would expect upon arrival. "Our beautiful cabin village, our gorgeous tall pine trees, and our remodeled store bring us the most pride," said Patricia.
True to their business, Thomas and Patricia love to camp and travel. "We have done more than 100,000 miles along the USA and have restored a 1973 GMC motor home to use it as often as possible," said Patricia.

City of South Bend, IN
The greater South Bend area has been attracting travelers for hundreds of years. Many of them have contributed to our history. Our tradition. Our culture. Our heritage is proud and determined but more than that—it's spirited.History & HeritageAs the shortest portage point between the St. Joseph River and the Kankakee River, this area was well known among native Americans, fur traders and missionaries who traveled from eastern shores to the Mississippi River and beyond. Since then, notoriety has stayed with us.Officially established in 1830, St. Joseph County was home to the Studebaker family and their iconic Studebaker Automobile Company. It was here that James Oliver developed his Chilled Plow into the most popular plow in the world. And it was a South Bend resident, Frank Herring, who first requested that a special day be set aside to honor all mothers.Campus CultureWe are a regional center for higher education. In addition to the University of Notre Dame, the greater South Bend area welcomes students to Bethel College, Brown Mackie College-South Bend, Holy Cross College, Indiana University South Bend, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Saint Mary's College and Trine University South Bend/Mishawaka. Each campus brings a rich variety of visual and performing arts, sporting events and year-round cultural activities. Enjoy big city amenities coupled with small town charm. Elkhart / RV Capital of the World
Elkhart is the RV Capital of the World, headquarters to international corporations, and the birthplace of Alka Seltzer and innovations in electronics and band instruments. Elkhart County boasts more patents than any other Hoosier county outside the state capitol.Yet life is not too fast-paced or unbearable. We are a friendly, home-town community in the heart of Amish Country.
We Build ThingsRecreational vehicles, boats, musical instruments, precise laser devices and everything in between are made in this community. A strong network of supply industries helps support these and other industries. The low business cost, access to skilled labor and an abundance of dreams encourage the entrepreneurial spirit to thrive here.“Business climate/entrepreneurship” was the number one reason people liked living in the Elkhart community. We are very proud of our ability to get things done.
Recreation and ActivityElkhart is built around Island Park the island resembling an elk's heart; hence, the name Elkhart. This park is located near the confluence of the beautiful St. Joseph and Elkhart rivers. Many lakes are in or around the Elkhart community and Lake Michigan beaches are only an hour away. It is no wonder residents chose “access to water activities” as one of the best things about living in Elkhart.Beautiful golf courses, parks and hiking/biking trails add to area recreational offerings.

The legacy of the three generations of the family who lived here is seen and felt through a nostalgic visit to the farm and homestead.Discover the tools and trappings of yesteryear and relax as you view the documentary films, walk the oaken floorboards of the 138 year old Amish homestead, and take a leisurely farm wagon ride around the 80 acre farm. National New York Central Railroad Museum
At the center of it all was the New York Central Railroad. Elkhart's National New York Central RR Museum recaptures the days when locomotives were symbols of progress, and ambassadors of goodwill across the country. The Museum was founded in 1987 and is an ever growing preserver of both local and national railroad heritage. Elkhart is a natural home for the museum; its railyard is among America's largest. Then, just as it is today, Elkhart was and is a vital link between East and West during our country's growth. Visitors enter the Museum through a 1915 passenger coach. This area introduces a timeline to the local railroad history beginning in 1833 with the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern RR, and tracing it through 1914, when the New York Central gained control of the LSMS. At the end of the coach, the path leads through the Central System Gift Shop and into the Museum's main gallery in an 100 year old freight house complex.

Ask the campground about the water quality before you make your reservations. It is important!

IMPORTANT: Don't bring any firewood! Emerald Ash Borer danger!
Firewood can be moved non-stop (except stops for fuel, etc.) ACROSS federally quarantined states (OH, IN, IL, MI) in an enclosed camper or trunk during the summer months (May 1 – Aug. 30) but NOT in the open bed of a pickup truck where EAB could get to it. From Sept. 1 – April 30, firewood can be moved nonstop in any vehicle, open or enclosed. If an individual traveling across states CAMPS overnight in a quarantined state (OH, IL, MI, IN) anytime during the year, the firewood’s origin becomes that quarantined state and they cannot bring it into Indiana. The same applies for anyone traveling across Indiana to another state to camp.
How You Can Help
• Don’t move firewood.
• Burn all hardwood firewood before you leave your campsite no matter where the wood came from.
• Know if your county is quarantined for EAB or if EAB has been detected in your county before you leave on your camping trip. See a regularly-updated interactive map of counties with EAB at http:// www.in.gov/dnr/entomolo/5349.htm
• Monitor your ash trees at home for signs and symptoms of EAB.
We sell certified, EAB treated firewood in the campground store ($4.99/bundle, delivered to your camp site).
