April 2009

Capitol Square Farmers Market kicks off the summer outdoor season on 4/18/09. Hours are from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm every Saturday rain or shine!

UW Spring Band Concert is 4-16-09 thru 4-18-09 at the Kohl Center.

Midwest Horse Fair is 4-17-09 thru 4-19-09 at the Alliant Energy Center.

Village Wide Garage Sale in Mt. Horeb is 4-24-09 thru 4-26-09.

Crazylegs Classic 8K run and 2M walk takes place at the Capitol Square on 4-25-09.

The DeForest Community Garage Sales are May 15-17. Get here early and "shop til you drop". Wares are usually set out by 7 to 8 a.m.

The Madison Marathon is May 22-24. The Madison Marathon is a two-day event held each Memorial Day weekend. A Health & Fitness Expo is held on Saturday where participants are able to register for the event or, if pre-registered, receive race materials, goody bags, and learn more about the marathon course. The Health & Fitness Expo also provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy free samples, displays, and interactive demos hosted by various health and fitness exhibitors. On Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend over 6,000 runners participate in one of the 4 races that comprise the Madison Marathon event. These participants take to the streets of Madison and surrounding communities by running a marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon or the Kids' Run.

Brat Fest is a Madison-area tradition. Now in its 27 year, the event is celebrated at Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center. Over the course of the four-day Memorial Day weekend approximately 100,000 people join in the celebration and help support roughly 70 local organizations and charities by purchasing more than 181,000 brat and 36,000 hotdogs. With the relocation to Willow Island the festival was able to expand to include many activities for kids and families, such as bouncy tents, kayaking, and rock wall climbing. With the addition of two entertainment stages that showcase professional and community performers these new features have enticed visitors to spend hours eating, drinking, and enjoying the festivities.

Festa Italia is on May 29-31 in Fitchburg, WI is hosted by the Italian Workmen's Club. This annual event features Italian food, Italian culture, live entertainment, a bocce tournament, a spaghetti-eating contest, and a carnival.

Saturday May 30th is the Komen Race for the Cure at Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center. The proceeds help to fund vital breast cancer screening, education, awareness initiatives and funding for the Komen Foundation's National Grant Program.

June 2009

The Isthmus Jazz Festival is Thursday, June 4 - Sunday, June 7. Enjoy free jazz on the Terrace and elsewhere. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Union Theater.

The 2009 Hotrod Power Tour Kickoff is at the Alliant Energy Center on Friday, June 5 - Sunday, June 7.

The Dragon Arts Fair, Student Film Festival, Ice Cream Social, and Car Show will be held on Saturday, June 6. Stay tuned for all the details coming soon.

The Wright and Like Madison House Tour is Friday, June 5 - Sunday, June 7. This is the 14th year of providing rare interior tours of both private residences and public spaces designed by America's most influential architect and Wisconsin native son, Frank Lloyd Wright, and his contemporaries. The De Forest Area Farmer's Market is held Tuesday evenings from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from June 9 - October 13. Located on Market Street downtown De Forest. Enjoy fresh, locally grown produce and farm goods. Stay for the DeForest Area Public Library's Summer Concerts in the Park!

Wollersheim Winery Prairie Fume' Picnic Days are in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. Held on Saturday & Sunday, June 20 & 21 and open to the public from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. This is your chance to relax and explore the world famous Wollersheim Winery on the outside like never before! Families of all ages are invited to picnic at the winery to kick-off summer. Bring your own food, picnic blankets or lawn chairs and the winery will have wine to purchase, live music, family adventure, and of course a unique atmosphere to enjoy.

Rhythm & Booms will be held at Warner Park on Saturday, June 27. This is Madison, Wisconsin's premier Independence Day Celebration and fireworks display. As the "largest fireworks display in the Midwest", it easily surpasses other fireworks events in Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee because of the length of the show (approx 35 min.), the number of shells fired (15,000) during the show, and the size of the annual budget. It is the largest single-day event in Wisconsin.

July 2009

The Annual July 4th Celebration

is July 3-4 at Fireman's Park in De Forest. The fun begins on Friday the 3rd with entertainment and runs through the 4th with live music, a beer tent, food, game booths, Freedom Run, parade, bingo and fireworks at dusk!

Art Fair on the Square. Mark your calendars for the next Art Fair on the Square on July 11-12. Located around Madison's beautiful Capitol Concourse, Art Fair on the Square is a popular summer tradition that regularly attracts more than 200,000 enthusiastic fairgoers and is rated among the top fine art fairs in the country.

The Dane County Fair is July 15-19 at the Alliant Energy Center.

The 2009 Maxwell Street Days Summer Sidewalk Sale in downtown Madison offers great shopping and restaurant bargains from Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19. This annual sidewalk sale and community event showcases Madison's unique State Street and Capitol Square shopping district. More than 100 shops, boutiques, galleries and restaurants-many locally owned-offer terrific bargains on clothing, jewelry, gifts, artwork, food, drink and more in this festive, family-friendly event.

The Windsor Area Garden Club Garden Tour is July 17-18. It is a fundraiser for the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center and Gilda's Club. More details to follow.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is July 27 through August 2 in Oshkosh, WI.

August 2009

National Mustard Day is celebrated annually at the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum on the first Saturday in August. It is a fun-filled day for the whole family and has traditionally included "free" Oscar Mayer hot dogs as well as music, games, other entertainment, mustard samples and more.

The North Star Blues & BBQ Festival is August 7-8. Enjoy a weekend of live Blues music and a BBQ competition sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society. See www.northstarbluesandbbq.com for more information.

The Sun Prairie Sweet Corn Festival will be held at Angell Park in Sun Prairie from Thursday, August 20 thru Sunday, August 23.

September 2009

Taste of Madison is held on the Capitol Square on Labor Day weekend. The hours are Saturday, September 5th from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 6th from noon to 7 p.m. This event showcases more than 65 local restaurants, 20 beverage stands and four entertainment stages and most of the proceeds benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Dane County. The participating restaurants sell a vast variety of both unique and traditional dishes to the estimated 150,000 attendees over the two-day period. And every food item is reasonably priced from $1 to $4. Best of all, admission to the event - which includes hours and hours of live entertainment - is free and open to the public.

The Quilt Expo, sponsored by Wisconsin Public Television and Nancy Zieman Productions, will be held 9 am - 6 pm daily from Thursday, September 10 - Saturday September 12. This event includes a 10-category juried and judged quilt contest, a kids quilt challenge, lectures, Sit & Sew, and hands-on workshops, a vendor mall, stage presentations by quilting authorities, prize drawings, special evening events and appearances by Nancy Zieman.

Ford Ironman Wisconsin events are scheduled from Tuesday September 8 - Monday, September 14. Cheer on more than 2000 athletes as they swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles. Competition begins at 7:00 am on Sunday at the Monona Terrace and concludes at Midnight around the Capitol Square.

World Dairy Expo is at the Alliant Energy Center Tuesday, September 29 - Saturday, October 3. The international trade show for dairy producers includes 2500 head of cattle, commercial exhibitors, educational seminars and youth judging contests.

October 2009

The World Dairy Expo continues thru Saturday, October 3.

UW Badgers Football. October 17 is the Homecoming game against Iowa and then on October 31, the Badgers take on Purdue.
