Way, way too many people and kids and animals. Not a pleasant stay at all. And to get screwed out of a ridiculous amount of money.

Bathrooms need repair

I thought the resort had a lot of amenities. Unfortunately one of few the campsites that was that was totally unlevel, I had the displeasure of having of being assigned one. Being elderly it was treacherous just coming out of the camper. A lot of the sites were bermed up and level. I wished ours was too.

Just had our second stay at the Palmer Gulch KOA in as many years. Great place for families! So convenient to many area attractions. Highly recommend!

Spacious clean, campsites with nice, paved patios. Ample shower facilities. Numerous activities and dining choices for adults and children. Plenty of well-groomed grass. Great camp store. Numerous interior roads need grading, many dips and mudpuddles. Pancake breakfast needs 2nd cashier: wait is too long. K9 dog park needs sand bottom not gravel for dog paws. Horseshoe pit needs sand and grooming.

Staff was friendly. Tent sites were small and cramped together. Bathrooms were a long walk. Wat too big, won’t be back.

Sites are too close together, and some like ours too close to the road. Our site was very 'lumpy' and uneven, making leveling a challenge and walking after dark difficult. The 'pull-thru' space was so short it did not leave enough room for the tow vehicle. We had to park it partially in our 'picnic area' to allow our neighbors to have access to their drives. Fire ring had no grate

We were very dissapointed with this KOA. As it is listed as a "Resort" we were expecting much more from them. The sites are packed together and when it rained our site was very muddy. We have stayed at KOA Journeys that beat this one hands down. Maybe they need to use some of their profits to upgrade their property? We won't be staying at this KOA again and did see other options around the area.

If you are a family with children it would be good. If you are a couple without children stay far away. They have nothing to offer adults. The pools iare constantly full of mainly unsupervised children. They charge you a resort fee but there is nothing for you to do that is not full of children. I do not reccoment this KOA for adults w/o children. There are plenty of other campgrounds.

All good...except camper by us crowded into our space....campground and laundry were very clean....we have been there several time...favorite place to go...

It has been over 20 years since I have been here and was happy to bring my kids. We all had a blast! The bathrooms were clean. We loved having the golf cart rental to get to other family members sites. I would recommend upgrading the laundry machines as some you don’t know how much time is left. I was also disappointed that you had to pay for coffee with the $3.50 pancakes.

Awesome !!!!!

Big Koa, well organized with plenty of activities. Pickleball court needs better lines, wifi was not good, u can say u should not use while camping, but in todays world it is a necessity.
Jul 22, 2023
The activities were great, staff and restaurants were fabulous but the upkeep, maintenance and cleanliness was a 2 star at best.

Very popular place to stay with terrific Mountain View’s. Some sites can be tight to get into but being escorted is a big plus. Lot’s of pets, lot’s of activities for everyone. Busy place so go slow!

The site was not well described on the website. When we showed up it was on a hill just barely big enough for our camper. There wasn’t much room for a family to sit around on camp chairs. I paid $40 to select a site and felt that there should be better pictures or description of what the site was like so would have picked a different site. Comfort station 3 is due for an update but was clean.

The park was wonderful and everyone was very friendly

It’s like a small town if it’s own. Nice campground but the worst service. I’ve traveled this country and other countries. Have stayed in another campground 15 minutes away and had almost full reception at the other place. Which was also in the mountains. This campground was the worst reception ever. But it does have nice amenities. Kids loved it!

Definitely needs better WIFI but the campground is fantastic. I would stay there again, it is just beautiful.

Nice wooded lots. This KOA has a lot of things to do including the horseback riding, swimming, a brewery, ice-cream shop, gift shop, etc. This KOA is very large and very busy. Would recommend to anyone travel to the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, or just traveling through.

This was the second time we have stayed that this KOA resort. First of all everyone involved with the horse riding were so friendly and helpful ! Lily the guide on the horse tour was the best ! Really enjoyed all the amenities. We did the tie-dye shirt activity and that was the only time all week that the activity people were less than helpful and unfriendly.

First time in a very long time at a private campground It was nice enough, but very crowded. Spaces extremely close together. There were plenty of activities and all of the children esteemed to be having a lot of fun. Recommend a dedicated trail to the dog walk area from the back loop. Very nice facility, just not our cup of tea.

THE GOOD **Disney-like architecture, lobby, landscaping, public areas. *Manager, Jamie= very helpful, problem solver. *scenery = breathtaking. *Excellent check in system. THE BAD Manager, Nathan = sarcastic, condescending, aggressively protective of system. *Significant disparity between Upper Tier sites and Lower Tier sites. *******PLEASE CALL US FOR DETAILS AT 630.688.8067 Thanks,

I rated a 2 as the area is close to Rushmore and other attractions. The Campground needs a major overall, and cleanup, section 500 is a mud hole, laundry desperately needs updated. Grounds were not kept up well based on what they charge$$$.Disappointing on the cost of all the extras we wanted to do but too much $$$.Resturant had terrible food. The turtle had great pizza and chicken but $$$$

Put 30ft camper in 12ft spot not for seniors pool was packed with kids no adult pool time it’s a do as u please ignore rules no one cares UTV run in campground like golf carts ignore quiet time dogs in pool area on and on hot tub full of kids had to pay resort fee and with all kids in pool could not use if u want a place to let kids run wild this is the place

Sires were very small, not enough room for trailer and vehicle, you need to take a lesson from Cody Koa as they are unbelievable, spacious and very friendly

Great resort in great location. Way too crowded and you definitively need reliable internet service. Being without cell signal and without reliable internet to send/receive text messages, is not acceptable in the 21st Century!
Jul 20, 2023
The site was not exactly what I expected. Way too congested had no wi-fi during our stay. Told the office, they were not concerned about it. Would not go there again.
Jul 20, 2023
had a campsite 343 that backed up to the open meadow. It was great in that we did not feel congested, had a great view of the park and mountains.
Jul 19, 2023
Everything about the campground was great! The one downfall was the lack of cellular signal/wifi. This was tricky with working and/or poor weather.

The staff is so informative and kind. The campground is very clean and everything is well organized.

Horrible cell service at your small “city” in the mountains.Driving out of your property for 1-2 miles gave us FULL cell service. We had excellent cell service at Cosmos Mystery Area out of Keystone? And that’s a known spot for unusual activity.Instead of packing more RVs into your area with newly built, muddy spaces, take time togive eachtraveler a personalizedexperience. You have enough$ to do

Very nice resort for families with children. Lots of activities. Parts of the resort are nice but the road near the rodeo where we were was horrible. Mud everywhere and sites are on top of each other. The resort is very close to Mount Rushmore and other places to visit. The laundry room was a disaster. The pancakes at the pancake breakfast were cold and doughy. Ernie was very helpful and welcoming

Very clean. Very family friendly. The showers and restrooms could use some work. But loved the our stay.

After night check in did not go smoothly, no envelope up front after a long drive made for a frustrating situation.

Stayed here for 2 nights, May 11th and 12th. Campground was super nice. We did get an upgraded site $66.00 a night. It had everything FHU, gas grill, fire pit and patio set. Can also rent a car which are at the campground so you don't have to unhook your rig to explore the area. Gulf cart rentals and ATV rentals, they have everything, lots to do. We were there during off season (before memorial weekend) so not everything was open yet. Would have been perfect location for our Mount Rushmore visit but due to road work on Highway 244 between MR and the campground we had to go the long way around. Doesn't look like the work will be done very soon. Restrooms were ok, nothing exciting, typical campground restroom and showers. If we travel this way again we would for sure stay here again.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.
