The views are worthy of the gods, but you don't have to be an Olympian to enjoy them.
The views are worthy of the gods, but you don't have to be an Olympian to enjoy them. Set among tall pines and white birches, the Lake Placid KOA lets you see why this gorgeous Adirondack Mountains countryside was chosen as the site for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games. This campground features spacious big-rig sites with a separate tent area, lean-tos and Kabins overlooking the trout-famous Ausable River. Mountain-hike from site or take advantage of canoe and kayak rentals, fun-cycles, mini golf, hayrides, movies, a game room, a playground, a snack bar and planned activities. Enjoy the campground's heated pool and socialize in the Adirondack-style lodge. Special weekends include dinners and DJ music.
Meet Your Hosts
Lake Placid looks nothing like Hawaii, but expect a Hawaiian "Aloha!" when you arrive. Owners Richard and Sylvia Nagamine are both from Hawaii. Even though they are far from their home, they carry the greetings of the islands back to their campground. "We are spreading the aloha spirit in the Adirondacks," Richard said.
They purchased the campground in 2000 after owning a furniture manufacturing business for 28 years. They were RVers and wanted to be around the industry more. "And we were always dealing with the public and wanted to continue," Richard said.
A meeting in California at a California parks association turned the couple on to the idea of owning a campground. They are most proud of the comments they receive from repeat customers, many of whom had camped for 20 years at their campground. "They comment about the changes we have made and say they see a big difference," Richard said.
Every customer is treated like a VIP at the Lake Placid KOA. From the moment they walk through the store until they get to their campsite, the Nagamines work to make their stay special. "We always try to keep our campground clean and tidy so when a camper walks through in the middle of the day, they feel like they are the very first customers of the day."
