Welcome to Lake Placid / Whiteface Mountain KOA. Open year round, we have lots to do no matter your favorite season. Join us for special theme weekends with food, music and dancing - courtesy of the ever popular DJ CR Tunes. Enjoy sunny days and warm nights by renting bikes, relaxing in our pool, or taking a hayride before kicking back fireside with a s'more (or two). Enjoy the food from our snack bar and don't forget to wake up to our cook to order breakfasts at the lodge.
In the winter months, enjoy a hearty breakfast in the lodge before heading out to snowshoe or ski - trails start right here at the campground. If something a little more cozy is your style, curl up in front of one of our roaring fires with a book or challenge the family to a board game. Of course all that snow is perfect for snowmen, snowball fights and sledding, too. Just don't forget the hot cocoa!
Golfers from young to old can hit the links on our nine hole mini golf course. Stop in to the office to pick up balls and clubs. While we can't guarantee you'll be the next Tiger Woods, we can guarantee fun to be had!
Located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains our KOA makes a great home base for mountain bikers. With a variety of trails starting at or near the campground you'll be exploring in no time. For the experienced rider our convenient location less than a mile from Whiteface Mountain - the closest accommodations you can get - is ideal if you're looking for a little elevation.
With trails starting right at our campground you'll be ready to explore near and far.
Ice Cream Socials
"You scream! I scream!"...Well you know the rest. Cool off with our famous ice cream socials. A staple of our summer activities, check our calendar or ask our friendly office staff when we'll be scooping next.
Kids will love our playground and all sorts of games and activities in our Fun Zone. In the warmer months, our heated pool is a favorite hangout to make the most of sunny days. Add a full calendar of planned family events throughout the year from cookouts to dance parties and you're sure to have a good time at Lake Placid / Whiteface Mtn. KOA! Meet Your Hosts
"All of our campers are treated like one of our family here at Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA."Chip and Julie Grundon first experienced the Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA as campers in the 1980s as they shared their love of camping with their children. In 2009, after Chips retirement from 22 years as a firefighter, the pair decided to make the leap to full-time campers. Wearing the tires on not one, but two motorhomes weve met so many great people at so many KOAs its like an extended family, says manager Chip Grundon.
That sense of family is part of what led Chip and Julie to join KOAs Work Kamper program. Spending a few years traveling and working at the campgrounds they love, becoming managers seemed a natural progression. Going from Work Kampers to managers has really been a great experience, asserts Julie. We get to meet and work with so many great people.
Part of what makes their jobs so enjoyable is sharing what made them fall in love with Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA with so many guests. Known for a summer season full of themed dinners, family dance parties with their campground DJ and social get-togethers, Chip and Julie are excited to open for the winter season in 2015. Located just a mile from some of New York States best skiing and all of Lake Placids renowned snow sports the campground is perfectly set to become a favorite winter hideaway.
We are so excited to not only continue all of the activities campers come back year after year for, but to start this new adventure with our guests. Its just another chance for people to get hooked like we did.
When not hooked on life at Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Chip and Julie enjoy photography, spending time with their grandkids (who they only make work occasionally), hiking and, of course, camping.
