Jr. Paleontology Program. This educational simulated excavation for Junior Paleontologists ages 4-12 is held 7 days a week at the Mammoth Site from June 1st through August 15th. Sessions are 10am, 11am, 2pm and 3pm daily June and July. 11am only August 1-15th.Advanced Paleontology Program. Based upon and expanded from our Jr. Paleontologist program, participants 10 and over will be taught proper excavation techniques and bone identification within a mock bonebed environment with replicas made from discoveries within the actual bonebed.  They will also learn how to map and jacket a bone. This class will be offered at 4pm daily; June 1st July 31st.  Daily at 2:00 pm August 1st August 15th.

Ruth's Night BlastThe first night blast of the year is June 26. It celebrates the birthday of the late Mrs. Korczak (Ruth) Ziolkowski (1926 - 2014), wife of the late Crazy Horse sculptor.

The June 26 blast also commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. The battle was June 25, 1876. Crazy Horse was a main strategist in the defeat of Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and his troops.The public is welcome at the night blasts. After 7:00 p.m. on June 26th the Memorial gratefully accepts three cans of food per person for the KOTA Care and Share Food Drive in lieu of the regular admission fee. Because the night blasts are among the Memorials most popular events, the public is advised to arrive early. The restaurant at Crazy Horse closes at 4pm on the evenings of the night blasts but the Snack Shop remains open.

Crazy Horse & Korczak Night BlastThe second traditional night blast of the year is on September 6th. The blast honors the dual anniversaries of the 1877 death of Crazy Horse and of the 1908 birth of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski.

Native American Day

The Native Americans Day celebration at Crazy Horse each year includes naming the Crazy Horse Memorial Educator of the Year, honoring an individual who has made significant contributions to Native American education. The award includes a $1,000 grant to the recipients school library or to programs of his or her choice that help students. The holidays program also includes a free public program featuring Native American singers and dancers. Programs and displays featuring artists, storytellers and hands-on activities for children are offered in the visitor complex. A free buffalo stew lunch is available for all visitors.

The National Park Service will offer free entrance days in 2017.In an effort to encourage public awareness of our nations rich natural and cultural history, these special dates are an entrance fee free day for many sites within the National Park Service. Jewel Cave National Monument is extending an invitation to the general public to experience guided cave tours free of charge on a few of these special fee-free days in 2017. At Jewel Cave, all regularly scheduled Discovery Talks and Scenic Tours (and Historic Lantern Tours on August 25) will be offered free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations will be taken for cave tours on these dates.
