50th Annual Memorial Day Observance-Battleship
On Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, at 5:45 pm, people of all generations from across the State will gather together on the deck of the Battleship to pay their respects. An emotional ceremony, preceding and concluding with military musical arrangements provided by a military band, and a guest speaker reflecting on the past as well as where we are today. The Executive Director of the Battleship, Captain Terry A. Bragg and members of the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship Commission invite the public to this free event.
Carolina Beach Music Festival
Listen up all you beach music aficionados; this is your chance to dance barefoot on the sand or just sway to the beat while standing in the surf. Held the first Saturday in June, the Beach Music Festival hosted by the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce is billed as "the biggest and only beach music festival actually held on the beach on the North Carolina coast" and one of the longest running beach music festivals in the United States. Come out and enjoy a full day of live entertainment with the hottest beach music bands in the south! * You can access this festival via the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.*

Pleasure Island Seafood, Blues & Jazz Festival
There is no better way to welcome the fall season at the coast than to attend the 22nd Annual Pleasure Island Seafood Blues & Jazz Festival! This year's magnificant line-up will feature Grammy-Award winning Dr. John & the Nite Trippers with their unique blend on New Orleans R&B and classic funk. Opening for Dr. John is Australian songstress & slide guitarist Kara Grainger who has toured with previous Seafood Festival performer Buddy Guy. Closing out the festival on the 11th will be "Queen of the blues" & two-time Grammy nominee, Shemekia Copeland who has shared the stage with the Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, B.B. King and Eric Clapton.
There will be many other blues & jazz groups on two stages over the two-day festival. Held at the Ft. Fisher Air Force Recreation Area in Kure Beach, this event is sure to sell out quickly, so purchase your tickets ahead of time. Please do not bring coolers or pets, but bring your chairs, towels & blankets for a weekend of music & seafood at the coast.

The PPD Beach2Battleship is an internationally recognized iron distance and half iron distance triathlon. Competitors from around the country and the world have traveled to the Wilmington, N.C. area to enjoy everything this world famous waterfront destination has to offer and to experience a competition Triathlete Magazine named as one of the top 5 iron distance triathlons in the world.
PPD, a leading global contract research organization, supports the event as its title sponsor to educate the public on the vital role of clinical research and participation in clinical trials to deliver new medicines to improve health and save lives, and to support the local community. All of the event's net proceeds are contributed to the Wilmington Family YMCA.
