With 2 divisions, paddlers can opt to do the 3.5 mile Recreational course or the 7 mile Elite course. Throughout the day there will be an exhibitor's expo open to the public with free demos. One of the largest traditional jazz festivals in the Southeast and a STS Top 20 Event, this musical weekend will feature Kevin Bales, Rossano Sportiello, Nate Najar, Chuck Redd, Jim Fryer, Dion Tucker, Herman Burney, Randy Reinhart, Jonathan Russell with Music Director Adrian Cunningham. Friday and Saturday nights feature All-Star musicians in the traditional seven sets of six or seven players, each with a different leader. These concerts will be 4 1/2 hours of beautiful jazz by the most talented musicians. Patron Packages include a delightful musical brunch on Saturday.

Enjoy the 13th Annual Polar Plunge along with the 5K Run-N-Plunge at Kure Beach! With the annual 5K Run-N-Plunge, shivering plungers brave cold conditions and dive into the chilly Atlantic Ocean after completing a 5K winding through the beach. Contestants are encouraged to dress up and find their inner superhero! There will be a pre-race auction, a costume contest, food and of course the plunge at the end of the race. Contestants can opt for the 5K Run-N-Plunge, a 1-mile fun walk or just the plunge but no matter what you choose to participate in, the day is sure to leave you smiling!

The third anual Race 13.1 Wilmington half marathon, 10k and 5k event returns on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017! The event will once again start and finish at Lumina Station, the "shopping village by the beach" with a route that features the citys beautiful Cross City Trail as well as the University of North Carolina Wilmingtons campus. Get ready for the third annual fat tire bike race on beautiful Wrightsville Beach! The US Open Fat Bike Championship will consist of a large oval or kidney shaped lap which will take racers from the thick sand to the hard packed sand along the waters edge. Riders have the choice of three levels of competition; beginner (8 miles), sport (16 miles) or expert (24 miles). While all bikes are allowed to race, bikes that are over 4 are recommended. Please check the website as the event draws closer for details about a possible long-ride excursion.

The North Carolina Azalea Festival 5K/10K & 1 mile-Fun Walk is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. Kids, dogs, and costumes are welcome!
All proceeds from this event benefit the Cape Fear Volunteer Center Big Buddy Program. Big Buddy is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches at-risk youth ages 6-16 in New Hanover County and Brunswick County with positive adult role models. Youth are identified as at-risk due to the following circumstances: involvement with the juvenile justice system, excessive in-school and/or out-of-school suspensions, poor academic performance, and lack of positive role models. The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is a 501c3 and works to recruit and train volunteers, match volunteers with youth, offer support and guidance through case management, and provide monthly group activities.

The 4th annual pier-to-pier swim. With an approximate distance between Johnnie Mercers Pier and Crystal Pier being 1.7 miles, the race is just under 2 miles along with a beach start and finish. Race direction is determined on race day and announced at check-in. Race swim caps and timing chips are provided. Awards will be given for overall male & female and overall masters (40+) male & female along with Top 3 in several age categories. Spectators can watch the race anywhere along the beach between the piers.

This is the 5th annual event in Sunny Carolina Beach right on the Atlantic Ocean, New Hanover County, North Carolina! Please join the Island Men this September for this two day event of activities, scheduled for September 15th and 16th. Racing will be on a 300m race course along the shores of the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin, a protected area of water lined with beach homes, condos, and marinas. Community teams will be racing along with a few club teams from around the region.
This event brings together sports, health and wellness, and arts to celebrate our island community. Proceeds from this event will go directly to benefit Step Up for Soldiers and their programs providing volunteer services for renovations, recreation and recognition for recently disabled Veterans.
The PPD IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina triathlon will take place on much of the same course as its bigger sibling and will feature a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. This "point-to-point-to-point-to-point" event begins in Wrightsville Beach and takes athletes along the same fast channel swim. The bike course runs through the coastal countryside outside Wilmington, and the run traverses Greenfield Lake before athletes finish in historic downtown Wilmington across from the USS North Carolina Battleship.
