Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Battlefield in Kure Beach and the Friends of Fort Fisher host Nor Shall Your Glory Be Forgot: the 150th Anniversary of the 2nd Battle of Fort Fisher. The weekend features hundreds of reenactors representing Union and Confederate soldiers, sailors, and Marines realistically depicting everything from camp life to battle strategies. Saturdays battle reenactment begins at 1:30pm; Sunday's at 10:30am. The program also features historians, authors, speakers, cannon firings, artillery demonstrations, new exhibits, new interpretive wayside trail markers, and a long list of VIPs and special guests, including renowned historian and battlefield guide Ed Bearss, who will serve as keynote speaker at the opening ceremony (Saturday, 11am).

Free parking provided at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Base, just north of the historic site. From there, visitors can take a short stroll to the site or board one of several free shuttles.

This is one of the largest traditional jazz festivals in the Southeast and a STS Top 20 Event. We will kick off Thursday night featuring 3 hours of different styles of jazz which will open with The Benny Hill Quartet. The second set of the evening will feature vocalist, Molly Ryan, Rossano Sportiello's "Tribute to George Shearing" and Ed Polcer's "Traditional Jazz Jam." Friday and Saturday nights we will present our All-Star musicians in the traditional seven sets of six or seven players, each set with a different leader. Big Buddy is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches at-risk youth ages 6-16 in New Hanover County and Brunswick County with positive adult role models. Youth are identified as at-risk due to the following circumstances: involvement with the juvenile justice system, excessive in-school and/or out-of-school suspensions, poor academic performance, and lack of positive role models. The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is a 501c3 and works to recruit and train volunteers, match volunteers with youth, offer support and guidance through case management, and provide monthly group activities.

The 2015 Carolina Cup kicks off the race season with four courses in beautiful Wrightsville Beach! This competition will be complete with a kid's race, the Harbor Island Recreational "fun" race, a Money Island open race and the dreaded Graveyard Elite Race. This competition is in its fourth year and in 2012, the Carolina Cup was the largest race on the East Coast with over 400 paddlers competing in the first day of competitions. In 2013, there were over 600! The competition is planned with a number of fun activities that will make this a true stand-up paddle destination event. Expect clinics by Danny Ching, Jimmy Terrell, Larry Cain, Jaime Mitchell and PaddleFit. It'll be one that you can plan a 5-day weekend and bring the whole family!
