Townsend/Canyon Ferry Lake KOA is steps away from the Boat Docks on the south end of the lake. A nice walk about and you can spy moose, pronghorn, grouse, and many varieties of song birds. Or launch your boat and motorboat around the lake to fish for trout, walleye, carp or perch.
A short drive south is Duck pond #4 causeway. This easy walkabout has wild deer, red foxes, nesting eagles and flights of swans, snow geese, and cranes.
Up the side of the mountain are harder hiking trails and 4 wheeler trails for the more adventurous adventurer!
This area is full of history museums and drives, too! The Lewis and Clark driving tour runs right past Canyon Ferry Lake KOA. Helena has several good museums and the Capitol has some interesting architecture to appreciate.

Old Baldy Golf Course is a nine-hole course featuring greens that were laid out in 1988, no water hazards and no reservation requirements.
Duck Pond #4 in the fall is a beautiful easy walk to enjoy the fall foliage.
If you like hiking, this is the spot!. Lots of trails meander through the Elkhorn Mountains, giving incredible views of Townsend and the surrounding area!
Plan on spending at least four hours in this fabulous place! It has many dinosaurs, a planetarium, traveling exhibitions and an old farm house.

Downtown Helena is an attraction in itself. The Capitol Mansion, the Montana History Museum and the walking mall make up this days adventure.
A short drive south, you come upon Lewis and Clark Caverns. It's a nice hike up a what seams like 45 degree hill to enter the cool caverns! The guides give a nice history of the area. Don't bring baby strollers and wheel chairs. The caverns have tight trails and low ceilings.

This is a 4 hour boat ride along the Missouri River. An awesome story teller gives a history of the area while they point out landmarks and animals! This is a good adventure for someone who has trouble hiking.
