The oldest festival of its kind in the Northeast, the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival attracts more than 85,000 people from New England and other areas of the country to our region during this two day event. As a juried art show, the festival attracts an audience of discriminating art enthusiasts who plan on purchasing both fine art and crafts from our 250 artists and artisans. The festival showcases more than 100,000 diverse pieces of oils, watercolors, photographs, pastels, sculpture, acrylics and more over two miles of art in the heart of Historic Downtown Mystic. The event is free of charge to the public and there are activities for all ages, including a Childrens Art Park. Area nonprofit organizations offer food and drink for sale to raise money for their organizations, making this a great community event.
With cool fall days comes the desire to indulge in a hot bowl of chowder and what better place to do so than here at Mystic Seaport? Our Chowder Days menu is sure to satisfy all appetites and features a variety of chowders and bisques, along with clam fritters, bratwurst, chicken kabobs, hamburgers, hot dogs, fish tacos, and apple fritters. Beer, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks will also be available.
Special event activities include live music, horse and carriage rides, games, a scarecrow activity, face painting, and arts and crafts in the Childrens Museum.
The Groton Business Association organized the first Groton Fall Festival in 2006. It was born from an idea to create a community-wide event that would attract artists, crafters and businesses and non-profit organizations to display their wares and information at Poquonnock Plains Park in Groton. Since its inception, the Fall Festival has grown dramatically. We now have over 110 vendors participating and thousands of people from the local area (and some from the not-so-local area) attend.
