3 Fun Fall Recipes to Cook Over a Campfire

Fall is a great time to go camping, and what's better than enjoying a delicious campfire meal? Here are three fun fall recipes that you can cook over a campfire:

1. Campfire apple crisp

This classic fall dessert is easy to make over a campfire, and it's sure to be a hit with everyone in your group.

Ingredients:

  • 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the apples, brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. You could even do this before you leave for your camping trip, and store them in a food storage bag.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into a cast iron skillet or Dutch oven.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
  4. Place the skillet or Dutch oven over the campfire and cook for 20-30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  5. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

2. Campfire pumpkin chili

This chili is hearty and flavorful, and it's perfect for a cold fall night. Prep the ingredients before you leave for your camping adventure to make it even easier to cook up over the campfire.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin puree
  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (10-ounce) can corn, drained
  • 1 (4-ounce) can diced green chilies
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin

Instructions:

3. Campfire s'mores dip

This s'mores dip is a fun and easy way to enjoy your favorite campfire treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (10-ounce) package chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs

Instructions:

  1. Add water to your cast iron Dutch oven, and pour chocolate chips into a metal bowl. Add metal bowl to the cast iron (creating a double boiler) and melt the chocolate chips.
  2. Once the chocolate is melted, stir in the marshmallow fluff, milk, and heavy cream until smooth.
  3. Pour the chocolate mixture into a cast iron skillet or Dutch oven.
  4. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the top.
  5. Place the skillet or Dutch oven over a campfire and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the graham cracker crumbs are golden brown and the dip is bubbly.
  6. Serve warm with graham crackers, marshmallows, and fruit.
