Campground Reviews

This was my first time at a koa. The front desk clerks were very touchy and kinda rude. The rv sights were soo jam packed together it was not a relaxing weekend at all. There was no grates to cook on for the fire pits. Even attempted on buying one but were all sold out. One showering station for the whole place , very inconvenient. And wood was way over priced. Will not ever stay at a koa again.

I felt with a very busy weekend with many campers that the bathrooms needed to be checked more often. They were dirty and smelled and to keep it stocked with supplies. The showers were not very warm and some were even cold and also cleaned more often. There should be more showers and bathroom facilities for as big as the campground is getting. We will be back next year.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for you comments. With the size of the park, the bathrooms are a challenge. We have hired additional housekeepers for the 2014 season which will focus primarily on the restrooms. We're also remodeling the water slide restroom building this coming Spring! Glad you enjoyed your stay.

We had a wondeful time! Love the campground and all the activities/things to do. Only suggestion is to move the smokers away from the office doorway/swimming pool entrance. We have allergies and had to wait several times to pass by that area! Also, we "escape" to camping for the fresh air!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Smoking in that area is constant work. We have placed "no Smoking" signage and created a smoking area away from the pool etc. Thanks for the thoughts. We're looking forward to 2014!

More activities should be included (no extra cost) for campers. "Heated" pool was ice cold! bought expensive tiny packs of firewood because no campground we've ever gone to has allowed you to bring your own. Didn't use one pack (still wrapped). Would not let us return it!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Sorry to hear not all was to your expectations. We were forced to locate a new supplier (higher priced) of firewood, due to the old supplier no longer being available. Check out our web page for 2014 activities. We look forward to seeing you again. Thanks

This was our first trip to KOA. We had a very nice time.Very clean park. Few suggestions... More seating for adults watching over children in play ground and "Bouncy" area. I had to see for myself after I was told by a friend that you were selling candy CIGARETTES!! It would be hard to believe you actually thought that was a good idea in a children's park!!! Shame on you!!!.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for your comments. We'll look into the candy situation. Hope to see you next year!

We had a great stay! Very Clean, maitained very well. The only thing I would change is not charging for mini golf or if you are going to charge, the course needs to be updated and fixed. The course was not maintained at all.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Glad you had a great time and thanks for the comments. We have replaced all of the wood and all of the carpet in the mini golf area, created a pond/fountain and increased the flower gardens as well, so check us out in 2014 for the new additions. Thanks

Great campground! Our campsite however did not accommodate our camper. Once we had our slides out we were pinned between 2 rows of trees. No room to let our awning out :( 35 ft travel trailer with 2 slides. Site 228. We loved the trees but that site could use a few less.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We are removing around 250 trees this coming season to assist with accommodating larger units and easier movements.

I was very upset to see the camp store sold candy cigarettes. This is totally inappropriate as it sends a bad message to kids that smoking is cool.

We have stayed at the KOA in Hayward, WI for several years over Labor Day weekend (about 10 sites booked for our family). This was by far the worst Customer Service we have ever received there. We did book again for next year but we did have a discussion if we should, we are going to try it one more year to see if we get the same experience.

I like the campground but I honestly think they should make 2 different areas because quiet time at 11:00 pm is not for us. We are all late 30's with kids and socialize at night because we do kids stuff during the day so that being said having a rude man coming over telling us to keep it down when all we were doing is talking is to much! And I heard the same story from different campers I met.
Sep 03, 2013
When paying a good amount for a campsite, some things should be included.Wristbands were overpriced. Most of staff were friendly, could relax a little on quiet hours.
Sep 03, 2013
The staff is excellent

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you....they really work hard!
Sep 03, 2013
Really missed the tie dyed t-shirts that you could make! Closer monitoring of the jumpy pillow. Maybe have a rule that children under 12 need to be supervised by parent when using.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Great ideas! Check out the web site for updated activities in 2014, tie-dye is back! Thanks

The only problem I have is there is not enough parking for the Cabins. I had one for the weekend and there was barely any room for one vehicle to park and not block any part of the road.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We are aware of the parking and we're working hard to limit the amount of guests staying per site, in order to allow our regular paying guests enough room for their vehicles. Glad you had a nice visit.

Wonderful place to stay with children! Lots to do! Our group had a blast but we think that the bouncy pillow should be free, also the 11pm quiet time is just fine however we were sitting by the fire talking and told to be quiet. Maybe they should have a side for people that want to stay up past 11pm and able to talk outside and then a quiet side as well to please all. But overall a great stay!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for your thoughts. With as many trees in the park as there are... the sounds/talking is held near the ground and really travel throughout the park. We always wish for all guests to enjoy themselves, but 11 PM is as late as we dare go. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay.

We stayed in a clean, comfortable cabin. The pool was refreshing and fun. Tubing was a blast and afordable. The fire ring was not up to par and we didn't like being next to the dumpsters due to the smell but the employee's were willing to bring us a fire ring that worked great. The staff was friendly and helpful.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for the comments. ALL new fire rings are on our list of improvements. Glad the staff helped you out. See us in 2014
Sep 02, 2013
The amenities and bathrooms were great and staff was helpful. The biggest downfall to this campground is the dirt/sand and the $36 wristbands for the water slide/jumping pillow/ tubing.
Sep 02, 2013
Despite assurances, our tipi leaked. And there was a distinct sewage odor at our campsite. We have come to this campground at least once each year for the past 4 years. I doubt that we'll camp there again.
Sep 02, 2013
We have been camping at Hayward KOA for 20 years and LOVE it! It is truly a fun place for families. We have spread the word to many families about how great Hayward KOA is. It's a great day when you are at KOA!!! See ya next year!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

That's great. Let us know when you return, we would like to meet you. See you in 2014! Tony/Rosie
Sep 02, 2013
The many amenities for family is what really made our stay awesome. The convenience of tubing was excellent. Love the camp kitchen. Wasn't told aobut wristband package that included water slide, pillow jump, tubing, etc. Rating not 5 stars because of this.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you. The river tubing is a big part of our park with as many as 600 tubers a day! We do have wrist band packages and we'll train our staff in letting everyone know! We're also looking into a zip line for the 2014 season! Hope to see you again.
Sep 01, 2013
Less friendly than last year. Large slide closed Mon -Wed Red Pine Breakfast only on weekends.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for your thoughts. We're conducting customer service classes this coming 2014! Unfortunately we lost some workers near the end of our season and we had to run a limited schedule at the water slide. New, additional staff is already hired for 2014. Check out our web site for new info. Thanks
Aug 31, 2013
Disappointed. Water slide not open during week, no special activities for kids during week, Not the friendly feeling like the staff that use to be there. Our cabin was great except the bunk room door was out of adjustment, and the floor was swept but not mopped. The jumping pillow is too expensive and should be included with the cost of staying especially when there are no other activities.
Aug 30, 2013
Dirty bathrooms, quoted prices were wrong, off by $17 per person for 3 day passes on waterslide/tubing/pillow. Also waterlside was closed! Staff not friendly!
Aug 30, 2013
We were disappointed that we were not told the water slide wouldn't be open at all during our 4 day stay. Campsites are way too close together, waiting for the gravel around the jumpy pillow to dry while the large staff in yellow told the kids they would check on it and didn't until asked at least 4 more times wasn't nice, either. If not for the pool, we would have found another campground.

We loved all of the fun activities for kids- bike rentals, waterslide, bouncy pillow, movie night, minigolf, etc. We stayed in one of the 4 passenger camper cabins and would definitely stay in one again. My only complaint is that there was barely any grass throughout the whole complex. I understand grass is hard to maintain with so many vehicles/tents coming in/out, but some would've been nice.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We attempted grass....all the trees rejected the idea! We are installing new tent areas with graveled pads for the tents. Thanks
Aug 29, 2013
Loved our stay , our 6 and 3 year old never ran out of fun things to do. The kids asked why we couldn't live there. We'll be back.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks. We look forward to seeing you in 2014! There will be additional activities next season.
Aug 28, 2013
The new owner doesn't want people to enjoy themselves. We had thirty people in our group and he wanted one person to talk at a time by the campfire. We were told we were not welcome back after the whole group have coming there for twenty years never had a problem an tell this year. We won't be back next year .

We had a great time during our stay. The staff is extremely friendly. When our to leaket they helped us dry our clothes. The one person Kay who is the activities person really went above and beyond.
Aug 28, 2013
Nice area and great staff. Downside is the waterslide and the advertised daily breakfast are both only open on the weekend.
Aug 28, 2013
We really like this KOA as it is right next to ATV trails. Please fix the AC though

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

You're not kidding about the AC! lol. New units have already been purchased! See you in 2014
Aug 28, 2013
It was a great safe Place to relax with the kids. I had fun and the kids said they had a blast. Everything was nice and clean and staff was excellent. I hope to stay every chance I get Thank You

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for the comments. We'll pass them on to our team!

Wonderful time. Booked the same cabins and lodge for next year extending our stay to 4 nights. Love the lodge but would like to see a full size refrigerator/freezer like the new lodges have. It's more convenient for a longer stay. The stiff mattress cover was the noisiest I've ever tried to sleep on. Something softer and quieter would be a kudo. Otherwise, looking forward to next year!! Thank you!
Aug 27, 2013
It was wonderful! Not one single thing to complain about!
Aug 27, 2013
Excellent stay as usual! Firewood bundles seem to be getting a little small though and some of the younger staff memebers seem like they don't want to be there. Maybe they need a pep talk, lol.
Aug 27, 2013
During check in, There were 3 staff there, 1 of which was a teenage girl who was in a snit about having to relieve a co-worker from the water slide. Her attitude was extremely unpleasant and unwelcoming to a guest-especially during camper appreciation weekend! Second, make the "no smoking" a priority at the pool. Thirdly, offer plastic recycling!
Aug 27, 2013
love your campground, but disappointed that we did not have a host show us to our campsite. It's always appreciated when we have a host show us ro our site and makes sure we are situated on the site okay.
Aug 27, 2013
While the campground was good, you have a worker there that has the poorest manners when dealing with people. Elise is her name and she should really work on how she presents herself to clients.

our cabin was clean, it smelled nice, cleaned by Jaimie. the bathrooms were very nice, plenty of hot water. A little less dust, but a very nice place. Kathy who checked me in was very friendly. The owner, Tony was very friendly and polite. I would come back, but get a more deluxe cabin. thank you everyone for making my stay a nice experience.
Aug 27, 2013
Hayward is a nice place. Very very busy KOA. Booked at last minute and slept in teepee under the pines as camper cabins were booked. Unique experience.

The cabin was great! My only complaint was the prices were too high on the activities!
