The most famous waterfall in America thunders just minutes away from your peaceful campsite at Niagara Falls North/ Lewiston KOA. Your hosts can arrange a van tour, door to door, or a jaw-dropping view. Or they can offer you lots of other suggestions, like the huge jet boat run through rapids in the Niagara Gorge, musket demonstrations at 300-year-old Fort Niagara and charter fishing on Lake Ontario. At the campground, enjoy a quiet swim in the pool. Set up a game of horseshoes or volleyball while the kids enjoy the recreation room, plus weekend pancake breakfast, ice cream socials and free wine tasting .

Meet Your Hosts

For Leigh Ashley and Fran Prior, owners of the Niagara Falls North KOA in New York, the timing for purchasing their campground was not what they had imagined. After purchasing their campground on September 11, 2001, they thought that no one would want to camp because of all the travel scares that were going on at the time. "It ended up being the opposite, though," says Fran, "because no one wanted to fly, so there was a big boom in camping."

Leigh, who formerly owned a bakery, and Fran, who owned an insurance agency, have been camping their whole lives, and had camped at the Niagara Falls campground quite a few times before purchasing it. "It was near our hometown, so we grew up there, and it was near Fran's grandchildren," says Leigh.

Since purchasing the campground, they have made numerous improvements, including newly paved and graveled entrances, and a beautiful park with huge trees. They have almost completed a electrical upgrade for the entire park. Since having a major fire in 2007, they now have a new store, bathrooms and laundry. "We want to make our campers happy," says Fran, "and would like them to choose us as their campground hosts while they enjoy the magnificent Niagara Falls."

When they're not at work on the campground, Leigh and Fran can be found knitting, gardening, walking Pepper (their Pomeranian), and enjoying the wildlife.
