Huge campground with pools, hot tubs, restaurants, nightly entertainment & horse stables! Only 5 miles from Mt. Rushmore and very close to Crazy Horse and many other things to do!!

In all the years of camping, I would have to say, this was hands down, the best campground we have ever stayed at. I am so glad I found this campground. My kids were so busy, they didn't have time to be bored. The only complaint I would have is, my butt is still sore from horsebacking riding. LOL!!! Thank you for making our stay fun and exciting. We will be back.

Our site was on a cut out hill. Not even room to put out a carpet to sit by our trailer. Maybe OK for overnite stay but we were staying for 3 days and made our reservation more than 6 months in advance. Our friends stayed the same time and were down in the flat, nice area. The guy across the way left the same morning otherwise we would not have made it out of the site, too sharp with trailer.

We were shoved into a tiny corner in the very back of the campground. The lots were so close to each other, there was maybe 2 ft between your green space with your fire pit and the neighbor’s camper. It was one of the worst KOAs I have ever stayed at.

Everything was wonderful. Lots of activities for the kids. Swimming pool, water slide, splash pad, miniature golf, bike rentals, golf cart rentals, horse back rentals, car rentals if needed, gift shop and lots more. Just wish the showers were cleaner. Right outside the door needs to be maintained lots of standing water. Besides that great place to stay.

We stayed at the campground for three days. It was great!!! Mike was a great at welcoming us, showing us to our site and checking on us to make sure we had all we needed. We took their bus to Rushmore to the evening show and it was great!!! Also Olivia was exceptional on the horseback ride we took! She was great with my six year old granddaughter and her tour of the black hills trail was informati

Stay was great! So many things for kids to do. Upon arrival we noticed that we didn’t have a firepit, but within 15min of letting staff know a new one was brought to our site and installed!

We had a problem with are assigned site in that our 41 ft RV Motorhome gave us no room to put chairs out or even have room to eat at the table. It took 4 Employees back into the site on a hill in the dark. Dylan the Manager was able to accommodate me with a golf cart to visit our daughter who was not able to be next to us due to my physical problems. will reserve a larger spot In advance

Amazing amenities! We loved the all you can eat pancakes that are offered every day. The showers and restrooms were very clean

Got to relax and see the sites
Jul 25, 2023
It is frustrating to pay 160 dollars per night and be stuck in a site with no yard and unable to get 5 people around a fire pit because of the ledge on one side of the pit. Limited area to set up camp chairs due landscaping of site. Seems more like a 40-50 dollar site.

Too short. We will make it home base in the future

Very relaxing very nice atmosphere good people there we had a great time

Our first visit to Palmer Gulch was about 30 years ago with our twins. Fast forward to 2023 and we were back with the whole family celebrating 40 years old! Great time was had by all!

Very disappointing for the price you pay for, unlevel sites, small sites, NO cell or internet service at the sites. I would have to think twice to go back.

The amenities are great and very family focused which you get kudos for but honestly the sites are right in top of each other. And it did not appear that there was any monitoring of the number of vehicles per camp family. We were next to a large rv with two trucks and two ATV’s. They parked in our picnic table area.

Absolutely loved Palmer Gulch KOA, we did the horseback ride to Chuck Wagon diner show, very neat little experience and the kids enjoyed it too! Pack a cooler if you’d like an adult beverage while enjoying the show. The water park was great for the littles, and the older kids and adults enjoyed the slide. If I had one feed back it’s the internet, the WiFi spotty and no cell coverage.

This is an absolutely fantastic place to stay. Very convenient to Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower & Custer. We stayed the week of the 4th of July. A truly inspiring trip. This park has every amenity and then some. I really liked the fact that they had car rental on site. A fine dining restaurant and pizza/ice cream parlor on site was a hit with everyone.

I stayed at an electric/ water/ sewer site, tent camp in my van and enjoyed the scenery. The campground itself is very busy with familes. Which I did not mind, because I knew this beforehand. I enjoyed all the new activities and the trail along the creek to walk on.

This KOA is amazing , just need more golf carts available for rent! Would have spent more money on recent stay…

I filled in the card but am happy to share again. We had site 13, which is a bit of a joke for how close things need to be to the road. If I had a larger vehicle it would not have worked. We paid a premium to stay at this location. I don't think it was worth it. Everything still cost extra except the normal KOA stuff, like the pool, golf, bounce pillow. Was a bit annoying. People were friendly

Was very busy place. Our site was quite small not very level tons of things to do there but very busy.

C’était le paradis des campings!!! Zéro moustique même si on était dans la forêt. Piscine, jeu pour les enfants, boutique et restaurant! Propreté parfait!!!

Way, way too many people and kids and animals. Not a pleasant stay at all. And to get screwed out of a ridiculous amount of money.

Bathrooms need repair

I thought the resort had a lot of amenities. Unfortunately one of few the campsites that was that was totally unlevel, I had the displeasure of having of being assigned one. Being elderly it was treacherous just coming out of the camper. A lot of the sites were bermed up and level. I wished ours was too.

Just had our second stay at the Palmer Gulch KOA in as many years. Great place for families! So convenient to many area attractions. Highly recommend!
Jul 23, 2023
Spacious clean, campsites with nice, paved patios. Ample shower facilities. Numerous activities and dining choices for adults and children. Plenty of well-groomed grass. Great camp store. Numerous interior roads need grading, many dips and mudpuddles. Pancake breakfast needs 2nd cashier: wait is too long. K9 dog park needs sand bottom not gravel for dog paws. Horseshoe pit needs sand and grooming.
Jul 23, 2023
Staff was friendly. Tent sites were small and cramped together. Bathrooms were a long walk. Wat too big, won’t be back.
Jul 23, 2023
Sites are too close together, and some like ours too close to the road. Our site was very 'lumpy' and uneven, making leveling a challenge and walking after dark difficult. The 'pull-thru' space was so short it did not leave enough room for the tow vehicle. We had to park it partially in our 'picnic area' to allow our neighbors to have access to their drives. Fire ring had no grate

We were very dissapointed with this KOA. As it is listed as a "Resort" we were expecting much more from them. The sites are packed together and when it rained our site was very muddy. We have stayed at KOA Journeys that beat this one hands down. Maybe they need to use some of their profits to upgrade their property? We won't be staying at this KOA again and did see other options around the area.

If you are a family with children it would be good. If you are a couple without children stay far away. They have nothing to offer adults. The pools iare constantly full of mainly unsupervised children. They charge you a resort fee but there is nothing for you to do that is not full of children. I do not reccoment this KOA for adults w/o children. There are plenty of other campgrounds.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.

This campground is awesome for everyone. We have been coming here for 5 years now at least one time year usually in August. We have 4 kids from age 5 to 15 and they all love it here. It has 2 pools playgrounds volleyball horseback riding utv rentals bike rentals restaurants ice cream shop small store for groceries and camping stuff wine shop and the kids love to play with all the other kids there. We don't have a camper so we stay in the cabins and they work great for the 6 of us. They have multiple bathrooms and shower house throughout the grounds to use and a laundry mat there. We never had any problems staying here and will keep coming back every year. There is a lot of things to do within an hour drive also. I would definitely recommend this place for people with kids of all ages.
