Best places to eat in town

So, you're all set up for camping, RV is level, lawn chairs set out, the air conditioner is blowing, but you just aren't wanting hot dogs over the campfire. What do you do? Check out some of our local restaurants that are sure to hit the spot! Our little area is becoming well known for some of the best eats in Whatcom county. Local places offers everything from fine dining, to little hole in the wall eateries. There is surely something for every appetite. Here is a short list of our staffs top favorites.

Cancun Mexican Restaurant

8874 Bender Road #107, Lynden WA. 98264

This is one of our favorite little hideaways, and It's only a bicycle ride away. Cancun offers authentic Mexican cuisine, in a comfortable family environment. The locally family owned and operated restaurant prides themselves in making everything "homemade", and when they say homemade, they mean it! The salsa is like none you have ever tasted. The refried beans, carne asade, guacamole, fajitas, shredded beef, all of it, is made from scratch. As a bonus for the adults in your group, who might enjoy an alcoholic beverage, Cancun has the absolute BEST margaritas you will ever taste.  Our staffs personal favorite are the Hornitos and the Jalapeno Cucumber, YUM!

Lynden Dutch Bakery

421 Front St

If you’re touring the downtown Lynden and an espresso and pastry tickle your fancy, swing through the historic Lynden Dutch Bakery. The shop has been in the community for over 100 years, and continues to put out Dutch favorites beloved by locals and visitors alike.

Now in the hands of Chad and Julee Simmons, the bakery sticks to its roots. “We get a lot of comments that people treasure coming to the bakery for our classics,” says Chad. “It’s part of our staying consistent with its history that we avoid putting out products that are trendy or fads.”

Capture the taste of summer when local berries are transformed into pies and sweets of all kinds. Chad and Julie recommend their special Bankets (almond sticks) and Poffertjes muffins, a unique take on a classic Dutch treat!

Chandara House

655 Front Street
Lynden

Whose mouth doesn’t spontaneously water at the thought of green curry? There’s just something so complete about the wonderfully sweet, sour and spice of Thai food. And as far as Thai goes, Chandara House is assuredly a local favorite. It’s been referred to by many reviewers as the “hidden gem” of Lynden. It's tucked into the windmill building for a really fun setting.

The restaurant’s devotees love the authenticity of their homestyle cooking served up by its owner chefs. Visitors are also enthralled with the unique location, with plant life and a koi pond adding to the atmosphere. Chandara is an especially apt choice if you’re looking for a gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly meal in Lynden.

Avenue Bread

444 Front Street
Lynden

Located in the historical Waples Building, at one time the oldest department store in the USA, Avenue Bread is known for its breathtaking architecture almost as much as its delicious food. Select from sandwiches, soups and salads, or enjoy delectable breakfast dishes and supper entrees. The best part? The bread, of course! This is the place to go if you’re looking to indulge in truly satiating comfort food.

Nami Asian Bistro

8862 Bender Road #103

Is Miso soup your ultimate comfort food? Take advantage of Nami’s take-out option, and bring the wonderful flavors home with you. Nami Asian Bistro offers Japanese-style cuisine in a sophisticated, yet approachable atmosphere. Their menu is largely built around sushi, teriyaki and bento combos, with an amazing variety between.

Their rolls are regionally acclaimed, with their house favorites being the Lynden, Bellingham and Nami Rolls.

Rustlers Front Street Grill

405 Front Street
Lynden, WA 98264

The Rustlers story:
Come on in and see us, Rustlers’ Front Street Grill celebrates the Seutz’s decades long success in the hospitality industry. We took a piece of the old “Rustlers Inn” and part of the “Rusty Wagon”, along with a piece of the “Dutch Mothers” and made something that we feel “Pretty good about”. So come give us try, or better yet come on back for more. We think you’ll like what we came up with. This place has great food, a fun casual dining experience, and it's just a great all around place to eat. This one scores high with all of our staff at the Lynden KOA.
