Camping in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho
Years ago, tribes came together here to relax in a place of peace: Lava Hot Springs. Now families and friends come here to play and reunite! Lava offers hot pools, an Olympic sized swimming complex, a river to float, golf course, and more-- all set in a lovely rural valley. Here at the Lava Hot Springs KOA you'll find R.V. sites, cabins, and tent sites along the river. New shower facilities and play ground, horseshoe pits, kamping kitchen, gift shop, fire pits and more. We'd love to see you soon!
Meet Your Hosts
Some people believe in love at first sight. For Cory and Tiffany Unsworth, however, it was love at first sleep.
"We knew we were in love with the campground on the night we were able to fall asleep to the sound of the river," Tiffany says.
A former city recreation director, Cory understood how to bring people together to enjoy fun in the great outdoors, but had never considered building a business based on it. That is until some good friends convinced them to take the plunge.
"We've known campground ownership was right for us ever since," he says.
Cory, Tiffany and their young family enjoy spending time together and with extended family playing games, engaging in outdoor activities, reading and eating their favorite treat-ice cream. It comes as no surprise, then, that they also focus on family-friendly fun for their guests.
"We are all about fostering family unity for our kampers," says Tiffany. "If families go away having made great memories, then we feel that we have done our job."
According to Cory, that job includes constantly working to improve their accommodations and their service offerings to keep guests coming back.
"Every year when our guests come, they will find a new amenity or service," he said. "We are committed to making our campground the very best it can be."

Local Attractions
The Hot Pools
In the 1800's, these served as neutral ground where men of all tribes would come together in peace. Today you will find the same thing! Visitors from all over the world come to the pools to rest, soak, and enjoy the scenery. Take in a massage to top off the experience, and you'll leave feeling relaxed and renewed.
The Portneuf River
Take a nice float down the little river that runs through the town of Lava Hot Springs. Several rental shops in town offer tubes that seat anywhere from one to four people. Within an hour, you can float the river twice. Be sure to bring water shoes to protect feet, and prepare for an adventure!
The Olympic Swimming Complex
This facility in Lava Hot Springs just keeps getting better! In 2009, steep speed slides were added to the mix of platforms, diving boards, swirly slides, rock wall, and large pools. Enjoy the spacious shallow area where young ones can play for hours. Take advantage of the family discount rate on Mondays-Thursdays!
The Sunken Gardens
These little gardens are a delightful sight. Meticulously maintained and free to the public, they are nestled down in naturally formed lava reef. This is a great little detour to take during your time in Lava Hot Springs. The Sunken Gardens are located near the Hot Pools.
Fishing
Our campers may fish in the river, right from the campground if they wish, and on a lucky day will snare a good trout. Another popular spot for fisherman is the Chesterfield Reservoir, located about 30 minutes from the campground. We have seen great catches come back to the campground from that spot (no fish tales here!)
Golf
Tucked away in a scenic Idaho valley above the resort town of Lava Hot Springs is the Dempsey Ridge Golf Course. This privately owned public course is operated and carefully tended by a group of gentlemen with a deep-running passion for a great game of golf. They invite you to join them for family and tournament events, a bite to eat, expert instruction, and nine holes of challenging fun.
Parks
Lava Hot Springs maintains several parks which are perfect for a family reunion meal, or just a place to romp for the children. These parks are available to be reserved for your group by calling City Hall at 208-776-5820.
Lions Club Bingo
Every Friday & Saturday, you can play Bingo at the White Wolf Restaurant, and there is often live entertainment at the Blue Moon and the Wagon Wheel in town.
Day Trips
- The city of Soda Springs is just 25 minutes away, where you will find a fun captive geyser, Oregon Trail ruts running through the 8th hole of their golf course, naturally fizzy water, and one of the last Drive in Theaters in the state!
- There is a National Forest only 20 minutes away, where you can ride on ATV's or enjoy a hike in the Pebble Creek resort area.
- Pocatello is 35 minutes away, where you will find any kind of shopping you are looking for.
