Attractions abound in lovely Charleston with horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping along the historic harbor.

You'll know this campground is special from the minute you drive through the entrance. Nestled in the old southern shade trees, greeted by songbirds and squirrels, you'll find it hard to believe you're only a mile from the interstate. Come see the fauna and the area's flora too. Nearby Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place Plantation feature beautiful gardens. Attractions abound in lovely Charleston with horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping along the historic harbor. Tour Fort Sumter National Monument, where the Civil War began, and the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Only moments from the Whirling Waters water park (a kid favorite) and a short drive to Cypress Gardens! Bring a group-the campground has a great recreation building with full kitchen and meeting facilities-and your hosts will arrange a guided tour that begins right here.

Being stuck behind a desk is not KOA manager Barbara Bard's idea of a good job. She likes to get outside and move around and greet customers. This is one reason, she said, why the Charleston KOA is a perfect fit for her job likes.

Barbara originally worked in customer service for a trucking outfit before entering into the campground business in 1981. She learned the skills of the industry from a long-time campground owner. "I started with a man who knew the ins and outs of the camping business and worked for him until about 10 years ago when he retired," she said.

Twenty-four years in the campground business gives Barbara knowledge to best serve the customer. "I've been here so long I feel I am a part of it," she said. She strives to see customers leave happy and knows that word-of-mouth advertising can make or break a business.

Barbara is particularly proud of the newly remodeled bathrooms. When she is not working, you can find her at the beach relaxing with a book. The waves, she said, are a way to get away and get calmed down.
