Hop on the SAM Shortline train to visit President Jimmy Carter's former campaign headquarters in Plains and his boyhood home in Archery. You'll pass fanciful Victorian architecture at Americus, once a bustling cotton exchange. The Andersonville National Historic Site, the location of the Confederate prison camp, lies 40 miles west.
