This owner-operated park welcomes your arrival. Regardless if you're traveling 30 to 500 miles, this conveniently-located campground off Interstate 75 has the site for you. RVers can enjoy a nice wide back-in site or if you like easy-in/easy-out, steer your RV into a 70-ft long pull thru site. No Rv? No problem. Enjoy a deluxe or camping cabin -- all equipped with at least heat A/C, Tvs and a refrigerator. If tenting is your pleasure, enjoy our "newly expanded" tent w/electric sites. Your 4-legged camper can even stretch its paws in one of our fenced-in dog walks. Hungry? Pizza, wings and much more is made in our KOA kitchen and delivered to your site. Take a dip or relax by our heated outdoor pool. Don't forget about our summer activities -- candy bar bingo, craft times, tie dye, hayrides, blow up water park and so much more. Check out the event schedule at www.wapakonetakoa.com.
While you are in the area, plan a few day trips. Visit the Neil Armstrong Museum where you can take a step back in time and relive the great event or try your hand at landing a space shuttle. Visit the Airstream Factory in Jackson Center, Ohio where you can watch how these unique RVs are built. They have free tours daily at 2:00 p.m. Or how about an underground adventure? Visit the Ohio Caverns where all ages have a great time. Hey golfers! Wapakoneta KOA campers now have privileges at the Wapakoneta Country Club. Let us book your tee time and go enjoy the beautiful course.
Meet Your Hosts
John and Debbie Schuettler had always dreamed of owning their own campground. They were lifelong campers, having progressed from a popup trailer to a fifth wheel over the years.
In 2001, they decided life was just too short not to enjoy what you do for a living, and they purchased the Wapakoneta / Lima South KOA Kampground.
"Customer service is Number One with us," says Debbie. "We treat all of our customers like we would like to be treated - with a welcoming 'hello' and a smile."
In their "pre-KOA" lives, John was a universal grinder operator for 24 years, while Debbie worked as a secretarial supervisor for a law firm for 15 years.
Now, their lives center around getting to know their campers.
"We are interested in their travels - where they come from and where they are heading," said Debbie. "Since we are located on a north/south route, we have a lot of overnight camping business. We want to build a relationship with each and every camper, from popups to motor coaches."
"We hope your travels take you through our area. We would love to see you!"

Fort Recovery
In late 1791, Miami Indians defeated General Arthur St. Clair's forces at this site along the Wabash River. Nearly three-quarters of St. Clair's men were killed or wounded in the Indian attack. In late 1793, General Anthony Wayne sent a force to build a four-blockhouse post named Recovery at the site of St. Clair's defeat. It was completed in March of 1794 and on June 30 of that year General Wayne's army defeated a huge Indian force. This set the stage for Wayne's final triumph at Fallen Timbers in August of 1794. Today Fort Recovery State Memorial offers visitors a glimpse of the 1790's, featuring two reconstructed blockhouses with connecting stockade, a monument, and a museum.
Fort Amanda
Located on the banks of the Auglaize River, Fort Amanda served as a major supply depot during the war. A diary kept by Ensign William Schillinger of the Ohio militia gives us a daily account of weather conditions, activities at the fort and his personal thoughts and observations.
Lockington Locks
These stair step locks, among the best preserved in Ohio, were part of the Miami and Erie Canal System, which opened for navigation in 1845 and connected Cincinnati and the Ohio River to Toledo and Lake Erie. For several decades the canal provided Ohio with valuable transportation and waterpower. Railroads gradually rendered the canals obsolete. The lockmaster's house, now a private residence, and a dry-dock basin for boat repair are still visible. Five locks step down to Loramie Creek where the abutments for the aqueduct remain.
Piqua Historical Area
The Piqua Historical Area State Memorial celebrates two thousand years of Ohio's rich history from prehistoric Indians to Ohio's canal era. The focal point of the peaceful 200-acre park is John Johnston--farmer, public official, and United States Indian Agent for western Ohio from 1812 to 1829. Here Johnston's numerous contributions to the growth of early Ohio and settlement of frontier America are presented in a truly unique and beautiful setting. Today, visitors enjoy the home and farm of this most extraordinary man much as it appeared in 1829. Preserved and furnished structures include Johnston's two-story mixed Dutch Colonial/Georgian style farmhouse, a unique two-story spring house, and a cider house. Costumed interpreters and craft demonstrators provide farm tours and display activities in the summer kitchen and fruit kiln areas. A mammoth double-penned log barn, constructed in 1808, is reputed to be the oldest and largest of its type in Ohio, and is still in use on the grounds. Nearby a ring-shaped mound earthwork discovered and preserved by Johnston was constructed by people of the Adena culture over 2,000 years ago.
