Meet Your Hosts
People are what the business is all about at the Skowhegan KOA. Beth McCann admitted to being a "gabber" when asked what her favorite part of the campground business was. "We love having people here, and we really enjoy being with our campers," said Beth.
In 2002, partners Don Cloutier and Beth McCann invested in their KOA. They had looked at 24 other campgrounds in the New England area, but when they saw the Skowhegan campground, they knew it was the one. "When we drove down the driveway, we both said at the same time, "I love it!" said Beth.
Don and Beth run their campground with the help of Beth's teenage son, Nick, and their work campers. Don has worked extensively with children, and Beth has taken both clown and magic courses, so the two are people connoisseurs. "Sometimes I wear funny socks, shirts, and hats for fun; the kids get a kick out of it," said Beth.
According to Don and Beth, the campground has more and more people returning each year. The Skowhegan KOA is both an overnight campground, as well as a destination park. Visitors stay for as much or as little time as they choose. The country atmosphere is pleasant, and the activities are fun. "We have added theme weekends, hay wagon and trolley rides, and a fire truck. Whether people want to kick back and relax or get into the activities, they can do either," said Beth.
She added that customer service is very important because, "We have been campers longer than we have been campground owners, so we know what its like."
The campground is very family-oriented, and both Don's background and Beth's love for laughing have played a large role in the comfort and relaxation of a camper's stay.
