Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park is a great place to visit if you want to spend some time in the great outdoors. The park includes 20 miles of recreational trails you and your family can use for hiking, biking or trail running. The park was founded from a donation by Edna Marie Larsen, who grew up in South Dakota. You can glimpse Harney Peak, Bear Butte and the start of the Badlands from this park.
Explore incredible dinosaur fossils and minerals from fish and sharks found along the banks of the Missouri River to Jurassic dinosaurs and mammals from the area. The Museum of Geology is a great free activity. Kids and adults alike can learn about the area's history of paleontology and mineralogy. The museum in Rapid City, South Dakota also contains a Kid's Zone with hands-on experiences to keep the little ones entertained.
If you would like to see some more dinosaurs, check out the Rapid City Dinosaur Park. The park contains seven “life-size” concrete dinosaurs and reptiles.

The tour is self-guided, so you can see the presidents in any order and stop whenever you want. While you walk the tour, you can read descriptions of the presidents and the statues.

Take a tour of the Black Hills Caverns to look at some interesting underground rock formations. The caverns host two guided tours. One explores the cave's first level, and the tour lasts about half an hour. The other explores all three levels of the caverns for the best variety of cave formations. If you have kids under five, they get in free. After exploring the caves, stop by the Kid's Zone to pan for gemstones or mine for crystals.
Visit this old fire station turned food joint for some classic American cuisine. This Rapid City, South Dakota, restaurant still contains memorabilia on the walls and ceiling, like the fire pole and ladders. The Firehouse includes a brewery, indoor restaurant, bar and an outdoor patio that sometimes hosts live music performances. You can drink at the bar or bring your kids and order food off the kid's menu in the restaurant.
