Welcome Message

Only 30 minutes east of Des Moines, our KOA is the perfect overnight stop after a long day's drive. Some even decide to stay a few extras days to visit the area and to relax.

At our KOA, enjoy RV and tent sites set in an open, rolling landscape. Relax by the pool (Memorial Day to Labor Day) or cast a line for bluegill, bass and channel catfish in the campground's fishing pond. You can hike a nature trail, pitch horseshoes and play Ping-Pong in the game room. There's plenty to do in the area, too. Stop by the Maytag Dairy Farms and take home some world-renowned blue cheese. Visit Pella during the annual tulip festival that bursts with colorful blossoms and delicious Dutch treats. You're also within a 30 minute drive to the state capital of Des Moines and attractions such as Adventureland Amusement Park, Botanical Gardens, Blank Park Zoo, and Prairie Meadows Casino in Altoona.

We are only two miles from one of Iowa's top attractions - the Iowa Speedway.  This state-of-the-art track was constructed in 2006 and designed by NASCAR champion and legend - Rusty Wallace.  Perhaps you can enjoy the thrill of driving a NASCAR car at one of the many driving schools at the track.  Also, we are only 30 miles away from the Knoxville Speedway - the home of Sprint Car Racing.  Be sure to take time to visit the National Sprint Car Museum.

Meet Your Hosts

Helen and I were married in 1984 and lived for the next 21 years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in a traditional middle class neighborhood where we raised our 3 kids. During that time, I worked as a mechanical engineer at the nearby nuclear power plant.

On day I looked at Helen and said "Let's do something different and exciting for a living while the kids are still young - something that involves the outdoors and will involve the whole family."

She agreed and, after packing up our old beat-up RV, we headed west for Yellowstone. During that time we experienced all the mountain states had to offer such as Devil's Tower, Roosevelt National Park, Custer's Last Stand, the Grand Teatons, etc. I remember meeting many RVers and was impressed with how friendly and free-spirited they were. It didn't take Helen and me long to determine that RV park ownership was the answer to our career pursuits.

In 2005, we purchased the park that is now Newton KOA and never looked back. Even after 7 years as a park owner, I never get tired of RVers - they all have a story to tell. Come share your story with us while on your trip - perhaps at one of our ice cream socials.

Campground News

New KOA Deluxe Cabin!

Our NEW deluxe cabin has just arrived from Breckenridge Park Cabins. We are now in the process of hooking it up and preparing it for our guests. More on this will be posted later.

Your GPS may take you on a tour through Newton, IA!

Some GPSs that RVers use may route them indirectly to our campground through the town of Newton. Though we are proud of our town and we think every visitor should see it first hand, there is a much easier way to get to our campground from I-80. When traveling I-80, just get off at exit 168 and travel north on Iowa Speedway Drive 3/4 mile and look for our Newton KOA sign on the left. When you see it, make a hard left turn in front of the sign. This will lead you into Newton KOA.

Services at Exit 168.

Newton has many services to offer.

  • Do you need general supplies and groceries? No problem - Walmart is only a mile way.

  • Are the kids hungry and you don't want to prepare a meal? No problem - Domino's Pizza is only a phone call away and will deliver to your site.

  • Do you need RV repair? No problem - my business neighbor (Barney's Towing) can have you up and going in no time. Also, we have experienced RV technicians in the community who regularly make service calls to Newton KOA.

  • Do you need fuel? No problem - we have 3 gas stations within one mile of Newton KOA.

  • Do you need a good meal? No problem - there are several restaurants to choose from in the area!
