Meet Your Hosts
"All of our campers are treated like one of our family here at Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA."Chip and Julie Grundon first experienced the Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA as campers in the 1980s as they shared their love of camping with their children. In 2009, after Chips retirement from 22 years as a firefighter, the pair decided to make the leap to full-time campers. Wearing the tires on not one, but two motorhomes weve met so many great people at so many KOAs its like an extended family, says manager Chip Grundon.
That sense of family is part of what led Chip and Julie to join KOAs Work Kamper program. Spending a few years traveling and working at the campgrounds they love, becoming managers seemed a natural progression. Going from Work Kampers to managers has really been a great experience, asserts Julie. We get to meet and work with so many great people.
Part of what makes their jobs so enjoyable is sharing what made them fall in love with Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA with so many guests. Known for a summer season full of themed dinners, family dance parties with their campground DJ and social get-togethers, Chip and Julie are excited to open for the winter season in 2015. Located just a mile from some of New York States best skiing and all of Lake Placids renowned snow sports the campground is perfectly set to become a favorite winter hideaway.
We are so excited to not only continue all of the activities campers come back year after year for, but to start this new adventure with our guests. Its just another chance for people to get hooked like we did.
When not hooked on life at Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Chip and Julie enjoy photography, spending time with their grandkids (who they only make work occasionally), hiking and, of course, camping.
