KOA Kamp Green Recognition

KOA Kamp Green Recognition

If you are looking for a family campground in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, this is the perfect camping place for you.

Easy off/on access from I-81, exit 257 (follow the signs). We are only 3½ miles from the Interstate. This KOA has long, level pull-through sites with ample space for even the biggest of rigs. Lounge by the heated pool, catch "the big one" in our stocked pond or explore our mountain-biking/hiking trail that leads into the George Washington National Forest. Visit our camp store for snacks, supplies and fun gifts. Enjoy the free 9 hole mini-golf, ping pong, horseshoes, basketball, playground, tetherball court, game room and large pet run. In season we have theme weekends, fun planned activities, and "HEY" rides. Don’t miss the ice cream socials, pancake breakfasts and nightly family movies.

A short drive brings you to Skyline Drive, wineries, antiques, caverns, Civil War battlefields, canoeing, Massanutten Ski Resort/Indoor Water Park and James Madison University. We have a primitive tent section with sites away from everything, a large group tenting area and a family tenting section near the pool, playground and facilities. Our four season Camping Cabins offer air conditioning, ceiling fans and even heaters to offer you a chance to kick back and relax in a comfortable, yet rustic atmosphere. Stay connected with friends and family with free WI-FI. We have a full service camp store, Wi-Fi, propane, firewood, 24-hour laundry, and immaculate bathrooms. In season, be sure to visit Bob's Gator Galley for breakfast and lunch. Sorry, we do not have cable TV. Please CALL for availability regarding reservations for Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day Weekend.

Meet Your Hosts

For more than four years, John Hucul and Monica Morgan-Hucul searched for just the right place for their family. From New York to Texas and everywhere in between, they looked for a place where they could get closer to nature, escape high-pressure living and get the chance to own and preserve their own land.

They found what they were looking for at the Harrisonburg/Shenandoah Valley KOA.

"Here we can provide a place for people to bring their families and come together to play," says Monica. "And our goal is to satisfy our kampers' needs and exceed their expectations from the time they arrive to the moment they leave the kampground."

"In short," she says, "we truly want to have happy kampers."

The couple agrees that they are most proud of their ability to "make things up" as they go along, creating a beautiful, updated kampground with many new features while still maintaining a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere. According to John, within the first six months of purchasing the kampground, they updated the game room, upgraded the bath houses and made other significant changes.

"And," he says, "we can't wait to see what we come up with next!"

Frontier Culture Museum Photo

Frontier Culture Museum

The Frontier Culture Museum tells the story of the thousands of people who migrated to colonial America, and of the life they created here for themselves and their descendants. To tell the story of these early immigrants and their descendants, the Museum has moved or reproduced examples of traditional rural buildings from England, Germany, Ireland, West Africa, and America. The Museum engages the public at these exhibits with a combination of interpretive signage and living history demonstrations. The Old World exhibits show rural life and culture in four homelands of early migrants to the American colonies. The American exhibits show the life these colonists and their descendants created in the colonial backcountry, how this life
changed over more than a century, and how life in the United States today is shaped by its frontier past. Visit their website for hours and special events.

Meems Covered Bridge Photo

Meems Covered Bridge

The Meem's Bottom Bridge was constructed in 1892-93 from materials cut and quarried nearby for the massive arch supports and stone abutments, which extended 10 feet below the riverbed. It was deeded to the Highway Department in the 1930's in return for assuming its maintenance.

This long span over the North Fork of the river carried traffic for more than 80 years before being burned by vandals on Halloween 1976. After salvaging the original timbers, the bridge was reconstructed and eventually undergirded with steel beams and concrete piers. The bridge was reopened to traffic in 1979 and is still in operation to date.
